According to the latest reports, Premier League giants Liverpool have decided to rule out a move for Olympique Lyonnais captain Nabil Fekir in the upcoming summer transfer window. The French midfielder was extremely close to joining the Reds last season but failed a medical which kept him at Lyon instead.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool enjoyed a fabulous campaign this season as they had their best ever run of a Premier League season ever since the club formed back in 1892. But strangely enough, the Merseyside club finished in 2nd place on the Premier League table, just one solitary point behind eventual champions Manchester City. Last season, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City unit broke multiple records as they stormed their way to the Premier League title, amassing a staggering 100 points in the process. But this term, Liverpool ensured that City will face a tough opponent and provide a title challenge as they push the champions to the final day of the season. Liverpool ended up with 97 points but Manchester City pipped the title with 98 points to secure back to back titles.
However, Liverpool managed to win silverware to show for their absolutely fantastic performances throughout the course of the season. Klopp’s outfit reached the final of the Champions League last season but fell short at the final hurdle suffering heartbreak against Real Madrid. This time Liverpool emerged as the best club in Europe after a 2-0 victory in the final against Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur in the final at Madrid. Liverpool brought the Champions League back to Anfield for the sixth time in their illustrious history.
Klopp is now adamant of dethroning Manchester City as the champions of England and end Liverpool’s 30-year long wait for the Premiership title. Liverpool’s midfield wasn’t able to break open the tightest of backlines in the Premier League and the German manager is looking to bolster his options in midfield to add strength but has ruled out a move for Nabil Fekir this summer.
The French midfielder was agonizingly close to joining the Reds in a €60m deal last summer that fell through after he failed a medical test at Melwood. Fekir was also tipped to join Liverpool this summer but the European champions will not look to make a move for the Lyon captain because of their options at the club. Making over 200 appearances since his debut in 2013 and has been integral to Lyon’s growth ever since.
Jean-Pierre Bernès (Nabil Fekir’s agent) back in April 2019, “We will know maybe the real circumstances that prevented Fékir’s move to Liverpool. The knee was a part of it, but not only that. He had passed a medical, done photos with the Reds shirt.” #LFC

The 25-year-old star midfielder has the ability to break down stubborn defenses and also pick out a pass for his attacking players. Fekir can also dribble and has an extremely good long shot who can add further dynamism to Liverpool and Klopp. This would suggest now why the Merseyside outfit now want to sign him.
Liverpool still have Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Adam Lallana, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri in their ranks as creative midfield options. Even Fekir’s high release clause may be the reason that Liverpool does not look to make a move for Fekir even though he has just 12 months remaining on his current deal with Lyon.
