Liverpool Confirms Nine Players Will Be Leaving The Club This Summer

According to the latest reports, Premier League giants Liverpool are prepared to offload as many as nine players in the upcoming summer transfer window in order to down size and become a more efficient unit for next season. The players that will leave the club this summer are Daniel Sturridge, Alberto Moreno, Adam Bogdan, Connor Randall, Juanma, Conor Masterson, Glen McAuley, Corey Whelan, and Ben Williams.

Jurgen Klopp led Liverpool to an extraordinary season this term as they won the Champions League in Madrid after beating Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final. The Reds have also enjoyed their best-ever campaign in the English Premier League ever since the club formed back in 1892 as they earned 97 points. However, that was still not enough to ensure the Premiership as they finished just one solitary point behind Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City stormed their way to the Premier League title last season when they broke multiple records in the process, amassing a staggering 100 points. But this season, Liverpool ensured that the blue half of Manchester will feel some nerves as they pushed the Premier League holders to the final day of the season to guarantee glory.

However, the European Cup returned to Anfield for the sixth time in their illustrious history. Klopp is still keen on dethroning Manchester City to end the Merseyside club’s 30-year long wait to win the Premier League title. In order to do so, he may have to offload a few players that are tying the club down or purchasing adequately in the summer transfer window to bolster his team.

The German manager confirmed earlier this season that English forward Daniel Sturridge and Spanish left-back Alberto Moreno will be leaving the club as the club will not extend their contracts that are set to expire this summer. And now Liverpool have released a statement on their official club website which has seven more names to the list along with Sturridge and Moreno, with six academy graduates and goalkeeper Adam Bogdan ready to leave the club, “Alberto Moreno and Daniel Sturridge are set to leave the Reds upon the expiry of their contracts this summer having helped the club clinch its sixth European Cup. Academy graduate Connor Randall, who made eight senior appearances under Jurgen Klopp, and goalkeeper Adam Bogdan, who played six games for the first team, will depart ahead of 2019-20 too. Academy players Juanma, Conor Masterson, Glen McAuley, Corey Whelan and Ben Williams are also set to leave the club.”

“The club also stated that five players have been given the option to extend their contracts as they also bid farewell to those that are departing the club. Contract offers have been made to Bobby Adekanye, Daniel Atherton, George Johnston, Abdi Sharif, and Edvard Tagseth. Everybody at Liverpool FC thanks the departing players for their contributions and wishes them the best of luck for the future.”

Liverpool are certainly looking like a well-oiled unit under Klopp and they now have to focus on winning the elusive Premier League title. For that purpose, there is a need to bring in more quality stars on the bench and it seems that is what the Kop boss will be aiming for now, in the days to come. It will be interesting to see now how things develop in the days to come for the Champions League winners.
