Manchester United In Pole Position To Sign Star; Tottenham Loses Out Again

According to the latest reports, Premier League side Manchester United are in prime position to snap up a deal for Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes in the upcoming summer transfer window as Tottenham Hotspur have pulled out of the race to sign the Portuguese play-maker. The Red Devils are looking to secure a deal for Fernandes to bolster their squad for next term.

Manchester United had a season to forget this term as they finished in sixth place in the Premier League table. At the start of the season, Jose Mourinho was in charge of the club but the ‘Special One’ wasn’t one of the favorites at the club because the United faithful did not prefer his defensive tactics as the football wasn’t played with too much conviction as well. With no results and poor performances, the writing was on the wall for the 56-year-old manager and he received the sack in December. The Red Devils then decided to appoint a familiar face in the form of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to handle the reins at least until the end of the season to stabilize the sinking ship.

But Solskjaer exceeded expectations at the helm during the early stages of his management as he helped United reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League in dramatic fashion. The red half of Manchester were trailing 2-0 from the first leg of the tie against Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain but overturned the result at the Parc des Princes with a 3-1 win to advance to the next stage of the tournament. United also strung together a bunch of positive results in the Premier League which got them in contention for a top-four berth and possibly Champions League football. All these impressive outings gave the 46-year-old Norwegian a three-year deal which meant that he would be the permanent manager of Manchester United.

The results have not gone United’s way ever since as the English side were dumped out of the Champions League by La Liga giants Barcelona. United also suffered poor results in the league and a final day loss to already relegated Cardiff City highlighted the work that Solskjaer has to focus on over the course of the summer.  Having already snapped up a deal for Daniel James from Swansea City, United are looking to add more quality to their squad.

One player that is attracting heavy interest from several top suitors across the European continent is Sporting CP midfielder, Bruno Fernandes. The 24-year-old had a stunning season with the Portuguese club netting 32 goals and notching up 18 assists as well across all competitions for Sporting CP. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has urged United to move in for Fernandes despite his hefty price tag of £50m.

The Red Devils now seem like clear favourites to sign Bruno Fernandes after Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly given up on trying to sign the talismanic midfielder. With that being said, no deal is complete till it is actually complete and only time will tell what will happen now in this transfer saga.
