According to the latest reports Premier League side, Liverpool is looking to snap up a deal for Fulham teenager Harvey Elliot in the summer transfer window to bolster their squad for the upcoming season. The Reds are in the hunt for the 16-year-old midfielder who is also tracked by European giants including Barcelona, Paris Saint-German, Real Madrid, and Red Bull Leipzig.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool had an extraordinary season this term as they finished 2nd on the Premier League table just one solitary point behind eventual champions Manchester City in the race for the title. The Merseyside club lost just one game all season in the Premier League and it was against Pep Guardiola’s City side.
Last season, Manchester City stormed the Premier League as they broke multiple records on their way to the title, amassing a staggering 100 points with no real competitors. This season, Liverpool ensured that the title race goes right down to the final day of the season and the wire as they fought tooth and nail against Guardiola’s unit. Somehow, Liverpool still finished in second place after accumulating 97 points, which was the best ever season that the club recorded ever since it was formed back in 1892.
Liverpool did taste success on a continental level as they managed to win the Champions League title and defeated Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final of the competition to bring back the European Cup to Anfield for the sixth time in the club’s illustrious history. But now Klopp is desperate to dethrone Manchester City as the champions of England and end Liverpool’s 30-year long wait for a Premier League title.
In order to achieve that, Klopp will have to downsize and make a team that has squad-depth which he can call upon when required. Reports claim that the English giants are now targeting Fulham midfielder Harvey Elliot as their new summer acquisition as they look to build on their success from last season.
Elliot became the youngest ever player to play a Premier League game when he came on as a substitute against Wolves aged 16 years and 30 days. The teenager has rejected a scholarship offer from Fulham, which means that he will look to move away from Craven Cottage as the London club is competing in the Championship at present and he has bigger ambitions to fulfill.
Liverpool has already agreed on a price for the Fulham star and is just waiting for a deal to go through, in order to make the signing an official one. Fulham captain Tom Cairney spoke about Elliot’s debut against Wolves and showered praise on the teenager, “He has been a sensation since he joined in training a few months ago. He does not look out of place and does some bits of magic that everyone says ‘wow.’ His attitude and his belief in himself at such a young age are frightening. He has got a great football brain, an eye for goal and is a very entertaining player. Hopefully, he will have a long and successful career.”
