According to the latest reports, Premier League outfit Liverpool have offered a contract extension to young midfielder Leighton Clarkson and the English star has agreed a new three year deal with the Merseyside club. The 17-year-old is considered to be one of the future stars at Liverpool mainly because of his set-piece ability that has been compared to former Liverpool star Steven Gerrard.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool endured a tremendous season this term as they finished in second place in the Premier League table but have still recorded their best ever season since the club formed back in 1892. The Reds finished the campaign with 97 points, just one solitary point behind eventual champions Manchester City, who won the Premier League for the second time in a row. Last season, Pep Guardiola’s side broke multiple records as they stormed their way to the Premiership amassing a staggering 100 points in the process with no other rival competitors. This season, Liverpool ensured that City will have to fight for the title as they pushed Guardiola’s men to the final day of the season in order to retain the title.
Despite a stunning campaign for Liverpool in the Premier League, the Reds managed to taste glory on the continental stage as they won the Champions League title beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final. Klopp’s Liverpool brought the Champions League title to Anfield for the sixth time in their illustrious history. However, the German manager is keen on dethroning Manchester City as Premier League champions and ending Liverpool’s 30-year wait for the Premiership.
In order to do so, Klopp needs to optimize his club to make them as efficient as possible and Liverpool need to strengthen their midfield. One department where Liverpool was running short off was in the creative midfield department. Ever since Philippe Coutinho left Anfield for Barcelona in January of 2018, Liverpool have failed to really replace the Brazilian as Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and even Fabinho could not help and provide the similar attacking force in the final third of the pitch.
Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner are great at what they do by trying to sit back and defend and hold up play for the attackers but none of them have that spark which can unlock defenses.

Klopp is now looking to give youth a chance and Liverpool have offered a contract extension for teenage star Leighton Clarkson. The 17-year-old player is renowned for his passing range and his ability to play in the attacking as well as defensive positions. In the U-18 side for Liverpool, Clarkson made 29 appearances and scored four goals and notched up seven assists as well, helping Liverpool to the FA Youth Cup that defeated Manchester City in the final.
Clarkson has already finalized the paperwork and agreed on a new deal with Liverpool as his old one is set to expire at the end of this summer. Clarkson’s decision to sign a contract extension with Liverpool speaks volumes of how highly regarded the youngster is at the club.
