It has been reported that Serie A side Inter Milan are now looking to sign Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge, who recently left Anfield and is looking for a new club. The 29 year old striker was not the first choice player for manager Jurgen Klopp in the last few seasons and barely got any game-time last term. With that being said, he decided to leave the Merseyside outfit and is now wanted by the Nerazzurri, as confirmed.
The Italian giants have hired former Italy and Juventus boss Antonio Conte as their new manager and are looking to make serious changes to the squad. They were keeping tabs on Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku previously, as the perfect signing for the Italian manager.
The former Chelsea man wanted to bring in the Belgian international, with Icardi set to leave the club due to his various issues. The rumours kept going strong for some time that the Manchester United man would sign, though it seems that the deal will not be happening any more.
Keeping that in mind, Inter have switched their attention now towards bringing in the former Reds’ star, as they see him as the right kind of player that can fit in. Sturridge has been having some fitness issues and has fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool, with Firmino being the first choice and Origi being the second.
His chances have become even less in recent times, though he did feature in the team when the Brazilian was injured last term. However, he failed to make an impact that would impress Klopp and with the club heading in the right direction and he not being part of the long-term plans, it was best for him to move on with his career as well.
He left the club at the end of the previous campaign and after having talks with various clubs, the interest from Inter could be the one for him. With the Lukaku deal not going anywhere, the former Chelsea boss may look to bring the Englishman in, who is a reputed goal-scorer.
Bologna were in the hunt to sign the attacker, though his wage demands were too much for him to handle. Due to that, the deal did not happen and they were forced to look for other alternatives at that point of time.
Now, if Inter can agree terms with the player, he will join them on a free transfer. It will be interesting to see whether Sturridge does indeed leave England or wants to stay in his native country and play his football here.
A host of clubs from the Premier League will want to bring him in and will possibly make an offer for his services. Despite that, the key factor to his decision could be Champions League football and the fact that the club can meet his demands or not.
He still is a goal-scoring striker and a lot of cubs will want to sign him. However, which team eventually does complete the deal, remains to be seen.
