Frank Lampard’s Chelsea has been handed a big plus point as star English winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has returned to first-team training following his injury that he suffered back in April. Hudson Odoi ruptured his Achilles in a fixture against Burnley in the Premier League last season but has returned to training sooner his expected date.
Life at West London hasn’t gone according to plan for Frank Lampard as a manager as the 41-year-old is still without a win in three games across all competitions. The Blues received a harsh reality check when they were hammered 4-0 by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United on the opening day of the Premier League season as the Red Devils took advantage of the defensive lapses in Chelsea’s back-line.
The Loss To Liverpool That Hurt Frank Lampard And His Plans
Lampard then had a chance to win his first title in his managerial career. That was as Chelsea faced Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul. Despite an improved all-round performance on the pitch, Chelsea was unfortunate to lose the match on penalties. That was after the score was 2-2 after extra time.
The third game was a return to Stamford Bridge and Lampard’s first game in charge of the club in front of the home fans and having taken an early lead, the Blues conceded in the second half to share the spoils with Leicester City as the Foxes were on the rampage.
It’s clear that Chelsea and Lampard need something to look up to over the next few weeks. There was some positive news for them. That was, as young teenage sensation Callum Hudson-Odoi returned to first-team training. The 18-year-old forward showed glimpses of his brilliance last season as he scored four goals helping Chelsea to win the Europa League. But an Achilles injury in April meant that Hudson-Odoi would spend a lengthy spell on the sidelines and it was estimated that it could take around six months for him to return to action.
The Update On The Injury To Chelsea Star Callum Hudson-Odoi
It seems that his recovery has gone according to plan. In fact, it has been rather better than expected. He was pictured training with the first team on Wednesday. The star winger was on the radar of Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. That is, as the German giants wanted to lure him to the Allianz Arena back in the January transfer window. The European transfer window closes on September 2nd. It doesn’t seem likely that Hudson-Odoi will move to Germany.
Frank Lampard also explained that he is glad about Hudson-Odoi’s progress, “He is getting closer. Trained the last week or two with the Under-23s and is looking good. There is going to be a period of conditioning work for him. The injury looks good, which is great news. Then he is going to have to be fitter than he has ever been. Because I am going to want him to run!”
It is understood that Hudson-Odoi will be available for selection soon. He is said to be available for the first team from next month onwards. That means that he can play again for the club from September. With Chelsea securing their first win against Norwich, things are looking rather bright for the Blues now.
