Confirmed: Midfielder Signs Deal With Chelsea, What Will Happen Now?

Chelsea star Mason Mount has signed a new five year deal after an impressive 2018/19 season at Derby County, where he played under current Chelsea coach Frank Lampard. The 20 year old midfielder has caught the attention of a lot of top clubs, who were said to be monitoring his progress at Stamford Bridge. Despite that, the player has now signed a new deal, which means that he will not be going anywhere and could be a main-stay in the playing eleven under the new Blues’ boss.
The English international has put pen to paper on a five year contract which will keep him at the Stamford Bridge for next five years until 2024. Mount helped the Rams reach the Championship playoff last season but luck wasn’t on Lampard’s side back then as Aston Villa made it to the Premier League. The midfielder was also impressive at the weekend when Chelsea took on Reading in their pre-season friendly.

Mount: It Is A Proud Moment
Mount is yet to make his first team debut in an official game but the midfielder has shown how lethal he can be in a level below by scoring 11 goals in 44 games for Derby County. Before playing for Derby County on a loan, Mount played for Vitesse Arnhem in 2017 where he bagged 14 goals for the club as they qualified for the Europa League.
Speaking to the club website, Mount said: “It is a massively proud moment for myself and my family. I joined this club at six-years-old and it was always my goal to play for the first-team one day. I am really looking forward to the coming season now and working hard to have an impact here at Chelsea. I have been at the club for a long time already and hopefully I will stay for a long time to come.”
Speaking on this young talent, Chelsea Club Director Marina Granovskaia added further praises and pointed out how important he is, like some of the young talents. She compared his case to players like Loftus-Cheek and other young talents who are an asset to the team.

He has been doing really well in recent times and has grown in stature and can do better, if given the right kind of opportunities. That is why they did not want to part ways with him in the past as well.
Mount has been at Chelsea since he was 6 and has slowly progressed through the ranks as he recently signed a four year contract which will see him stay at the Stamford Bridge until 2023. The player was once again in action on Wednesday when the Blues took on the Red Bull in a pre-season friendly.
Though he failed to score in the game, he did play 16 minutes or so and has been impressive overall in pre-season. Due to this, Lampard will want to keep hold of him, rather than sending him out on loan yet again. As it is, the Londoners have a transfer ban and they can utilize as many players as they can get.
