Match Report: Manchester United Vs Crystal Palace; As United Lose Their First Game Of The Season

Crystal Palace shocked Manchester United at Old Trafford as they clinched all three points from this encounter. Manchester United’s hope of finishing at the top four in the League table has certainly been dented after this result. The Red Devils started off the campaign in the Premier League with a fascinating win against Chelsea with a margin of 4-0 at Old Trafford. The fans certainly started to get back the old vibes of Manchester United in this season.

The things started to change after the second match when Manchester United were held by Wolves with a score-line of 1-1. Paul Pogba missed a penalty and United dropped two points in that match. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told in the press conference that Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba would continue to be his two designated penalty-takers.

In the match against Crystal Palace, Manchester United could not start the match in a flow. Luke Shaw’s injury will certainly add more headaches of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The left back of Manchester United has to be taken off and Ashley Young came in place of him. Manchester United were controlling the gameplay in the first half of the match with almost 71 percent of ball possession. Against the run of play, Crystal Palace scored the opening goal of the match at the 32nd minute of the match. Schulpp provided a ball towards Jordan Ayew who got some free space in between the two centre backs of Manchester United. Ayew placed the ball perfectly into the Goal to give the all important lead to Crystal Palace.

Just before the halftime, Gary Cahill fouled Marcus Rashford just at the edge of the box. However, Paul Pogba’s free kick was not on target. The first half ended with a scoreline of 1-0 in favour of the Red Devils.

Aaron Wan Bissaka was shown an yellow card at the first minute of the second half. This game was one of the worst games in the career of Aaron Wan Bissaka as he failed to make any impact in the game. Jesse Lingard was subbed out and Mason Greenwood was brought in place of him.

At the 70th minute of the match, Milivojevic fouled McTominay in the penalty box and the Red Devils were rightly awarded a penalty. Marcus Rashford took the penalty; but his shot struck the bar. United’s penalty curse continued for another match. Just when the supporters started to lose belief, Daniel James scored a stunner at the 89th minute of the match. The ball was provided by Anthony Martial.

Manchester United were looking for a winner at the Fergie Time and they were very excited to get another goal in the stoppage time. All players went forward. At that time, Wilfried Zaha started a run from the mid-line of the field. Patrick Van Aanholt came to support him and his shot went to the Goal from the near post. It could have been easily saved by David De Gea but it was the day written for Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace and they clinched all three points from this match.
