Talking Points: Chelsea 1-1 Leicester City; Why The Blues Failed To Secure All Three Points

Chelsea

Chelsea escaped with a point against Leicester City on Sunday at Stamford Bridge. It was the first match at Stamford Bridge for the match for Frank Lampard as the manager of Chelsea. Certainly, the fans were very much excited about the return of Super Frankie at Stamford Bridge as the manager of the club. However, the result will not keep them happy. Chelsea has now collected only 1 point from two matches so far in this season and the top-four dreams are starting to look fade for the Blues. Here are the talking points of the match :

1. A Wonderful Start Of The Match By Chelsea FC :

Chelsea was brilliant in the opening 15 minutes of the game. They pressed hard and the opposite side did the mistake. It was a blunder from Ndidi and Mason Mount took full advantage of it. Chelsea took the lead in the match with an early goal at the seventh minute of the match. The Blues could have easily got the lead of two goals in the first half, but they failed to convert those chances in the first half.

2. Decline In Intensity In The Gameplay Of The Blues :

After the initial pressing, suddenly the intensity of the game-play of the Blues decreased. Chelsea should have gone for the insurance goal in the first 15 minutes of the match.  However, they were not able to get the goal at that moment. After 30 minutes in the first half of the match, Leicester City tried to make a comeback in the match. The Foxes continued to trouble the defensive unit of the Blues throughout the whole second half of the match.

3. Leicester Equalised The Scoreline :

Leicester City equalised the scoreline at the 67th minute of the match when Maddison’s corner was connected perfectly by Ndidi. Ndidi made up for his mistake in the first half. Leicester City was dominating in the second half of the match and the goal was going to come at any moment of the match. There were several more opportunities for Leicester City. Jamie Vardy and James Maddison were not clinical in front of the goal.

Pulisic

4. Chelsea Boss Lampard’s Odd Substitutions :

Frank Lampard made three substitutions in the match and those were really odd in terms of the match situation. He brought in Kovacic and Willian in place of Jorginho and Pulisic. Pedro was looking injured and he played the whole 120 minutes in the Super Cup in the midweek. The fatigue was very much natural for him. On the other hand, Willian just came back from injury. At the vital point of the match that substitution cost a lot for the Blues in the last 15 minutes of the match. Ross Barkley was not brought into the critical situation. Those substitutions of Frank Lampard in this match was questionable.

5. Fantasy Premier League Tips :

The managers are certainly considering kicking Lucas Perez out of their side after back to back two blanks, though with some easy games coming up they may reconsider. On the other hand, the same is applicable for Ross Barkley of Chelsea too.
