Update On The Future Of This Manchester United Target; Solskjaer Gives His Verdict

The Recent Stories-

According to reports, Premier League giants Manchester United were keen to sign former Tottenham Hotspur forward Fernando Llorente in the summer transfer window as a free transfer to bolster their attacking options. The Spanish international ran out his contract with North London side Tottenham Hotspur earlier this season and is looking to find a new club to play his football for the new season.

Manchester United are still in quite a mess it seems as the Red Devils are not able to find their groove under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian took charge of the sinking ship back in December and in his first summer transfer window made a few recruits which looked to make the club a well-oiled unit. The 46-year-old spent big to negotiate deals for Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace and Harry Maguire from Leicester City in the summer. Even young sensation Daniel James was signed up to add some pace and tenacity to the attacking line and Solskjaer admitted that keeping hold of a few other key players was integral to helping the club progress.

United had a great start to the new season as they thrashed fierce rivals Chelsea 4-0 at Old Trafford to earn three points in spectacular fashion. However, that was followed up by a 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineaux Stadium, post which they lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace.

United had the chance to grab all three points but Paul Pogba missed a late penalty as his effort was saved by Wolves shot-stopper, Rui Patricio. A similar incident happened with Rashford against the Eagles.

The Red Devils still look a bit weak in their front line as Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace traveled to Old Trafford this weekend and beat the home side 2-1 with Patrick Van Aanholt scoring a late winner to earn three points for the Eagles. With Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku joining Inter Milan earlier this season, United are lacking a strong figure upfront that can actually hold up play to involve other attackers. Lukaku was great at shielding the ball and a great target man being a threat in the air and causing opposing defenders innumerable problems.

However, his departure has left the 20 time League champions a bit short in the attacking department and Solskjaer is looking for a striker that can provide that different dynamism to his front line. Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Fernando Llorente is the man who has been identified as the new marksman for United as the 34-year-old played a key part in Spurs’ Champions League run last season. The Spaniard scored eight times last term but Tottenham did not offer him a contract extension and Llorente was allowed to leave on a free transfer deal.

United were looking to take advantage of this situation and sign the Spanish international on a two-year deal to bolster their attack for the rest of the season and beyond. Although Llorente is relatively old and is in the twilight years of his career he has the experience of playing at the top level and can be a great option for the Red Devils as a target man to lead the line.

Latest Update-

It has been confirmed by the Norwegian boss that the Red Devils will not be adding any more players to their squad. The club may be on the verge of selling Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan. Despite that, they will not be signing any more players. This means that Llorente will not be joining the Old Trafford based side.
