According to a report, former England and Chelsea international Joe Cole has insisted that Arsenal doesn’t stand a chance to sign Brendan Rodgers as their new manager. The Gunners parted ways with their former manager Unai Emery just a few days ago and are looking to bring in a viable replacement for the Spaniard on the back of a disastrous start to the season.
The north London side faced back to back defeats in the domestic front as well as the Europa League in the last week, which spelt doom for the former PSG gaffer and he was shown the door out of the Emirates Stadium. Freddie Ljungberg has been appointed as the caretaker manager along with Per Mertesacker as the Gunners look to take on Norwich City in their next match in the Premier League.
With Arsenal standing at the ninth position in the league table, there are a few names who have been linked with the top job at the North London club. As per the report, current Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is being considered as the frontrunner to replace Emery at the helm of Arsenal, but according to Joe Cole, that looks far from possible.
In a recent interview, the former Liverpool winger said, “For me, Arsenal needs a Brendan Rodgers, but there is no way Brendan Rodgers is going to Arsenal.” He added, “There is no way Leicester are letting him go and there is no way he is looking at that team and thinking you are better than what I have got here. Not a chance.”
Leicester City has performed brilliantly in the Premier League this season so far under the tutelage of the former Celtic and Liverpool manager. They have won nine of their 13 matches so far in the Premier League and have accumulated 29 points to show for their efforts. This has pushed them to the third position in the league table as the Foxes prepare to take on an out-of-form Everton side in their next match.
According to Cole, Arsenal owners need to be blamed for the poor condition the club is in at the moment. He blasted them as he said, “That sums up the club over the last 10 years. You talk about the owners, you have got three or four owners all over the place, with different agendas, communication with the fans is none existent.”
He added, “The fact you have so many different candidates for the job. After Thursday they probably thought we will have to do something. But now, you are in a bad position because all of the owners have got to get together. They have got to agree on philosophy, style and a type of manager.”
Arsenal are currently in absolutely dire straits and need to turn their fortune with half of the season still left to play for. With Rodgers leading the race to become the next manager at the Emirates Stadium, it is now to be seen to takes on the reins and help the Gunners to get out of trouble in the near future.
