The American striker admitted in a press conference that the series of low performances would test the character of a relatively young Chelsea squad. The Blues hope to turn the table against Aston Villa on Thursday. Chelsea hasn’t been a happy team, especially after the international break. Their 2-1 loss at Etihad was followed by a draw with Valencia, and now it’s their defeat to the 14th ranked West Ham on Saturday that has been causing a dip in form for The Blues.
The Story Of The Game; As Chelsea Was Beaten
It is that time of the league where no team can afford any fallbacks. Any further loss or even a draw will result in a loss of opportunities and points. Christian Pulisic came out to the press to express his views on the loss. Pulisic said, “In the season that is what happens – there are ups and downs. Obviously, we have had a few months now where people have said how well we have done and how everything has been going great.”
Chelsea’s campaign has already been marred with quite a few injuries- the latest being Tammy Abraham. The English forward has been out since he injured his hip against Valencia. His presence was sorely missed in the game versus West Ham, as it was his rich vein that Frank Lampard was banking on.
To cover up for the 22-year-old, Lampard started with Olivier Giroud and Pedro who failed to make any substantial impacts. Olivier had only two shots in the 90 minutes whereas Pedro struggled to complete passes and rotate the ball. Frank decided to rest Azpilicueta, N’Golo Kanté and Callum Hudson-Odoi to achieve full recovery but this rough patch for the blues is proving to be worse than anyone actually thought.
The Comments Made By Christian Pulisic After The Game
Christian Pulisic didn’t shy away from answering questions; he further added that “Absolutely, tough times test your character. Things are not going amazing, I would say this is not the worst thing, so we have to go on but now luckily in this league, we get another game mid-week, so we get a chance to redeem ourselves. It was a pretty crazy game midweek and then coming here we wanted a good result, we came out with a lot of energy and did some things well, but we did not have that finishing touch. It felt like a little something was missing.”
Cresswell’s 48th-minute goal caused attacked the reputation of Chelsea at their fortress (Stamford Bridge) where winning for other teams is nearly impossible. Lampard’s men will look to bounce back in their Thursday fixture against Aston Villa in the same venue.
In the end, Pulisic concluded by hoping to turn things around soon. He said, “That is the thing you can not [explain it] really. You would think it would be the other way around. It is a bit strange. I guess I do not know. Maybe it is just putting ourselves under a bit more pressure than we need to at home, who knows? We want to go out and get results wherever we play. We come out with the same energy, and we hope that we can turn it around here.”
Chelsea lost 1-0 to Bournemouth beyond the loss against the Hammers and more similar thoughts might be coming forward soon. Hopefully, they can recover now, as their league form is dipping and fast.
