According to the latest reports, Chelsea forward Willian has revealed that he is yet to be offered a fresh contract by the Blues. The 31-year-old Brazilian is an important part of the current Chelsea squad. He has also said that he is willing to stay at Stamford Bridge in the future as well.
With the inclusion of the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic in the side, the Brazilian winger’s place has looked in danger. This has happened for the first time since his arrival at the west London club. Current manager Frank Lampard is evidently more inclined towards utilising youth in the team setup. However, he has also said that Willian is an important part of the current Chelsea squad.
Speaking to the media, the former Chelsea midfield ace turned manager said, “He is a very important member of the club and of course I want it to be done but that is obviously both sides have to be happy for that.”
Speaking about Willian’s contract standoff with the club, the Blues gaffer said, “I said it before it is an ongoing situation with the club in terms of the contract. That is not so much my business.”
He also added, “You can see he is playing very regularly for us and playing well and I have said that two-three times in the last month that I am very happy with him so you see where I am at with it.”
On the other hand, the 31-year-old winger has also been mouthing his wish to stay at the London club in the future as well. In a recent interview, when he was asked about the contract situation, the Brazilian said, “Honestly I am happy here. I feel happy to play for this club but this situation is not in my hands. It is in theirs. I wait for them.”
He added, “They know what I want, what I want to do. They already know so I wait for them.”
The Blues have evidently lacked fire-power in their recent outings. This has seen them lose back-to-back matches in the Premier League against Manchester City and West Ham United. The situation is grim and Willian being a reliable attacker, it is important for the Blues to keep an eye on his contract situation.
Willian is a veteran of a staggering 310 matches for the west London club. This is undoubtedly an awesome feat in itself for any top-flight player. He has scored a tally of 55 goals and has dished out 56 assists to show for his efforts. These numbers already show how important a player he is for the Blues.
The brilliant Brazilian has also helped Chelsea to win a number of titles as well. This includes two Premier League trophies and the Europa League. The latter they won in the last season under the reign of their former manager Maurizio Sarri. Now, it remains to be seen whether the Blues let him leave for nothing or reward his loyalty with a new contract.
