Brock Lesnar’s last match in WWE TV was against Rey Mysterio. He successfully defended his WWE Championship in a No Holds Barred match. Since then, he has been absent from the programming. If rumours are to be believed, he is potentially done for 2019. To add to that, his next match is probably going to be at next year’s Royal Rumble.
TalkSport is now reporting two names that the management is internally discussing as The Beast’s opponents for WrestleMania 36.
Lesnar could either face Cain Velasquez in a ‘rubber match’ or Tyson Fury, considering Fury defeats Deontay Wilder to win the WBC heavyweight boxing crown.
Velasquez had his first match in WWE against Lesnar at Saudi Arabia’s Crown Jewel for the WWE championship. It was rather disappointing as Lesnar submitted Velasquez in a quick affair. Their first meeting was in UFC where Velasquez had defeated Lesnar to win the heavyweight title. So, WWE is looking to book this match as a ‘rubber match’, since it will be their third meeting.
Tyson Fury, on the other hand, crossed over to pro-wrestling in a one time deal. He made his WWE debut at Crown Jewel, where he faced Braun Strowman and defeated him. Their feud got a lot of flack from the fans, as they accused the company of going behind the MMA audience and completely ignoring their own fan-base. The storyline too seemed very forced.
Fury’s last appearance in WWE was on Raw a couple of weeks ago when the company was touring the United Kingdom. There, he and Braun became friends all of a sudden and promised to team together in the future.
The source didn’t make it clear if either of the matches is going to be for the WWE championship or not.
Brock Lesnar’s latest reign as the WWE champion started at the premiere episode of SmackDown on FOX in October. It was there that he managed to defeat Kofi Kingston with just one F5 to capture the gold. Since that point, he defended the title on two separate occasions. First, against Cain Velasquez at Crown Jewel and then against Rey Mysterio at Survivor Series.
However, he has surely been relatively active this year. “The Beast Incarnate” has still wrestled just eight matches but was involved more in the storylines than usual. Brock even made more appearances on the weekly shows. He started the year as the Universal Champion and had his first match of the year against Finn Balor at the Royal Rumble, where he successfully defended his title. Then, he faced the men’s Royal Rumble winner, Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 35 in a losing cause.
Further, he then made a surprise appearance in men’s Money in the Bank ladder match a month later as the last entrant. He went into this match and captured the briefcase to kick-start his most entertaining run in the company with ‘Brock Party’. Finally, he cashed-in his briefcase on Seth Rollins at Extreme Rules to kick-start his third reign as the Universal Champion. Despite that, he soon dropped the title back to Rollins at a month later at SummerSlam, before going after the WWE championship.
A complaint that fans always have with Lesnar as the champion is that he makes very fewer appearances. Hopefully, he will make more appearances next year, or better yet, drop the title for good.
