WWE Hall of Famer, Shawn Michaels came out of retirement last year to wrestle in a tag team match alongside Triple H against The Undertaker and Kane at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia. There was a lot of speculation as to why the Heart Break Kid made a return. However, recently Triple H revealed why HBK came out of retirement quite recently. The match was not anywhere in the same level as some of the other matches on the show as all the four wrestlers were way past their prime.
Triple H got injured, Kane’s mask fell-off and the Undertaker looked awful. Shawn Michaels was the best part of the match, but that is not saying much as he was in the ring with three other wrestlers who were in their 50s.
Shawn Micheals and Triple H recently were guests on the latest edition of Cory Graves’ After The Bell. On the podcast, The Game opened up about why his long-time friend, Shawn Micheals made a return to WWE as an in-ring competitor.
He said:
I think sometimes when you leave the business – I see it in a lot of guys – when you first leave you just want to get away from it a little bit and put down the everyday frustrations of it. I think that is what a lot of people have to do and Shawn Michaels was away from it for a long period of time; completely disconnected from it and then he came down to the Performance Center. That place is infectious and the youth of it and the excitement and their excitement for it, it’s just contagious.
Shawn Michaels had one of the best retirement matches in the history of wrestling. He wrestled against his long-time enemy, The Undertaker in the main event of WrestleMania 26 with the best build-up of the show, producing the best match of the year in a “streak vs career” stipulation. It cannot get any bigger than that.
The Heart Break Kid had an illustrious career filled with lots of great matches and moments. He seemed satisfied with his retirement and was happy to make rare guest appearances on the show for the next nine years. But, retirement in wrestling doesn’t mean anything as we have seen countless superstar wrestle after announcing their retirement.
His tag team match at Crown Jewel was just a one-off thing as he has not wrestled ever since. He was teased as Dolph Ziggler’s opponent at SummerSlam this year, but Ziggler ended up facing Goldberg at the show.
That one-off match in Saudi Arabia will not spoil Micheals’ legacy at all as he will always be remembered as the Heart Break Kid who was not afraid of anything in the business. Even Micheals himself sees his match against The Deadman at WrestleMania 26 as his retirement match.
In other news, Lars Sullivan’s old adult films and photos have been discovered by the fans. He went by the name of Mitch Bennett in those videos which were released before he joined WWE.
Lars joined WWE in 2013 and made his main roster debut this year after WrestleMania. WWE was pushing him as an unstoppable force but that got derailed due to the knee injury he suffered in June which has kept him out of WWE programming since then.
Lars’ old homophobic tweets too surfaced during early summer this year which made him the biggest enemy in the eyes of the fans. Safe to say nothing has been going his way since the start of the year.
