Jasprit Bumrah is tagged as the best bowler across the formats in the whole world. He is now recovering from a back injury after the victorious West Indies tour. The pacer has started his strength and fitness training under the guidance of Rajnikanth Sivagnanam at the Mumbai Cricket Association.

What Rajnikanth Sivagnanam Stated?

Rajnikanth Sivagnanam is a trainer at Delhi Capitals. Incidentally, Rajnikanth is the trainer who applied for a trainer job for National Cricket Academy but got rejected by the panel in August 2019. They handed down the position of Strength and Conditioning coach to Nick Webb. An official of the Board of Cricket Control In India said, “This is not a judgement on Nick in any way, but the process was harder for Rajni than anyone else. I had inquired from a member of the panel who was surprised at the apparent hostility towards Rajni. He was asked to do things by the gym trainer on the panel that no one else was. What was curious was that the person on the panel had not worked at the level that Rajni had worked at. It would be interesting to know who placed him on the panel.”

The standard of fitness training at NCA is a burning issue in Indian cricket nowadays. Star India allrounder Hardik Pandya has not visited NCA after his last surgery which adds to that. Indian coaches blame NCA for ignoring Indian coaches. Further, the inadequate eligibility criteria for selecting coaches is another problem.

With Bumrah and Pandya not opting for services at the NCA, the debate has begun. That is, on where the National Cricket Academy is going wrong.

Jasprit Bumrah is termed as an essential member of team India. With his slingy action, he has achieved tremendous success in all formats. Especially, after his rise in Test cricket after debuting in South Africa, he is considered a premier pacer of India. Injury to him is being regarded as a significant setback for team India. Bumrah preferred to train under Delhi Capitals coach Rajnikanth. He chose him in place of training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Bumrah sustained a minor stress fracture in his lower back in September that kept him out for some time.

This injury kept him out of South Africa and Bangladesh tour. He also visited London for further treatment. Considering the important New Zealand tour and World T20 next year, team management is not hurrying to get back speedster on the field as it can be risky.

The Indian Premier League could be the first tournament with regards to cricket. It will surely be played without any audience. This fact has been confirmed. However, what will the overall response remains to be seen.
