Chelsea Ease Past Nottingham Forest To Qualify For The Fourth Round Of The FA Cup

Chelsea

Chelsea eased past Nottingham Forest to qualify for the 4th round of the FA Cup. The manager of the Blues, Frank Lampard made nine changes in the starting lineup of Chelsea for this match. Frank Lampard was playing with a formation of 4-3-3 against Nottingham Forest. Willy Caballero was there in the goal of Chelsea FC.

Emerson Palmieri was there as the left-back and Reece James was playing as the right back. The pair of Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori was chosen in the central defence for this match.

The Story Of The Game That Chelsea Won With Ease

Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Ross Barkley were playing in the central midfield. Michy Batshuayi was playing as the lone centre forward. Pedro and Callum Hudson-Odoi were deployed at both wings.

Chelsea was dominating against Nottingham Forest from the very beginning of the match. The Blues got the lead in the sixth minute of the match. Pedro provided a brilliant crossfield pass towards Callum Hudson Odoi. Hudson-Odoi eased past his marker Joao Carvalho. His shot was placed brilliantly into the net and the goalkeeper had no chance to save it.

The Blues kept on the pressure on the visitors. They were creating a lot of chances. However, Nottingham Forest got a breakthrough a counter-attack. Alex Mighten was fouled in the penalty box by Fikayo Tomori. The penalty was awarded to Nottingham Forest. However, VAR cancelled the penalty as the attacker was in an offside position.

How Did The Blues Put Up An Impressive Performance In The Match?

Ross Barkley doubled the lead for the Blues at the 33rd minute of the match. Again it was a move created by Callum Hudson-Odoi. The Goalkeeper of Nottingham Forest saved the shot of Hudson-Odoi. The deflected shot came back to Ross Barkley who placed the ball into the goal. He was the right man present at the right moment for the home side. The first half ended with a scoreline of 2-0 in favour of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

At the beginning of the second half of the match, Yohan Benalouane was subbed in place of Tobias Figuierido for Nottingham Forest. Reece James was brilliant for the Blues in this match. He provided a few great crosses towards Michy Batshuyai. However, the Belgian centre forward failed to score from those golden opportunities came in his way.

The manager of the Blues, Frank Lampard will certainly be frustrated with the performance of Michy Batshuyai. Reece James was booked at the 65th minute because of a high boot challenge. Frank Lampard took Mateo Kovacic off to introduce Mason Mount at the 69th minute of the match. Tariq Lamptey came into the field in place of Pedro at the 76th minute of the match.

Ryan Yates was shown a yellow card just after that. Chelsea was keeping possession mostly in this match. The Blues were not much eager to increase the lead. Nottingham Forest would be a happier side in the second half of the match as one of their goals were denied for offside and they did not concede again. The match ended with a scoreline of 2-0 in favour of the Blues at Stamford Bridge, helping them qualify for the 4th round of the FA Cup.
