Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has made quite an impact for the club. The 28-year old has proven his mettle in recent times. Also, he has immense leadership capabilities which tend to get the best out of his teammates playing around him. However, there have been questions over his future at the Stamford Bridge. Frank Lampard has been opting to develop the youngsters. Jorginho provides stability in the midfield and his wide range of passing ability helps him control the tempo of the buildup.
Lampard could shift his view on playing a youngster in place of the Italian international. For this purpose, the Chelsea manager does not need to break the bank or even look into the transfer market. He already has a player ready to step in his shoes.
Billy Gilmour has shown glimpses of his talent. If given more chances the 18-year old will developed into a top midfielder. His maturity on the ball at this age proves he is a very confident individual.
With all those questions over Jorginho’s actions in the defensive role and also his minute threat in attacking, they can come to an end with Gilmour who has a very balanced approach. Someone like Lampard will be ideal for the Englishman to learn the ropes in his early days.
Lampard Impressed By Gilmour?
Even the Chelsea boss is impressed with Gilmour’s abilities and tireless work ethic to move all over the pitch. “We have had a few of the young players come through this year, and that has given me great pleasure, as they are great to work with. They want to come in, they want to learn, and they are like sponges,” Lampard told Sky Sports.
“Billy has given me as much pleasure anyone. When you look at Billy, he can be quite slight in terms of his size, he is quite quiet, young and polite, but then you train day-to-day with him through the season
“He moved over to the first team quite a while ago to train because he just had to, because he just trained at such a level. If you have possession in training, or a small game, just simple passing, whatever, you talk about having the attitude there and getting the basics right
“In the modern-day, it can get lost a bit doing the basics right, and he does them day in, day out. I am pretty sure he will because his attitude and family he has around him is good, and he has the talent.
“It was a real pleasure seeing someone come in and do the real midfield basics – and that is not to say he is not a talented player – but the basics of receiving the ball, turning it around the corner, and making all of the right decisions in the game.
Which Stars Could Leave?
Chelsea can do without the 28-year old midfielder as they already have someone like N’Golo Kante who is indisputable starter while Mateo Kovacic has shown tremendous ball progression from the middle and with Mason Mount and Billy Gilmour adding more stability.
Also, the Blues are in talks with Philippe Coutinho. They have already secured someone of Hakim Ziyech’s calibre. The Blues are in good stead for the upcoming season, even if Jorginho decides to leave Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard seems to be the man with the plan. The best thing is that he is backed by the fans and the club management. Roman Abramovich trusts his general to lead them to titles in the seasons to come. This is indeed a great sign and things could only improve from here.
