If reports in England are to be believed, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is desperate to sign versatile Bayern Munich star David Alaba. The Blues are in the market for a new left-back, as it is already well known. They have been linked with both Leicester’s Ben Chilwell and Alex Telles of Porto, though a deal hasn’t gone through yet. According to reports in England, Alaba has been identified as the priority target of the Blues. This is thanks to his immense experience and versatility.
It is understood that Lampard is a huge admirer of Alaba’s adaptability. Due to this, he has prioritized the signing of the Austrian international. Reputed football reporter Guillem Balague said on his YouTube channel: “There is another player that is available, if not wanted by others, if he does not go anywhere else, Chelsea would like. And that’s Alaba.
“He has been approached by other clubs, yes, but Chelsea will be interested in Alaba and I think that his versatility will really work in favour of Frank Lampard. He can play as you know in the midfield, in the full-back position as well, of course, that is where he is very well known as, but Pep Guardiola made him much more than just a full-back.
“It will be interesting to see him in the Premier League. That is certainly one to keep an eye on.”
Bayern Ready To Sell Him To Chelsea?
Alaba’s Bayern contract expires next summer. This has led to speculation he will leave the German champions. The club is also keen to cash in on the Austrian instead of lose him on a free.
It is strongly claimed that Alaba is keen on a move away from the Bavarian club. He has achieved everything he could in Germany. He wants to explore more outside the Bundesliga.
Serie A giants Juventus have also been linked with left-back. They face competition from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City as well. City boss Pep Guardiola worked with Alaba at Bayern. He also was the one to introduce him into a midfield role. Alaba has made 28 appearances this season, mostly at centre-back, with wonder-kid Alphonso Davies playing at an unnatural left-back role where he has certainly flourished.
For a player who is just 27 years of age, Alaba has immense experience at the top level. He was one of Louis van Gaal’s greatest finds from the academy of Bayern. The player also made his place in the first team at a very young age.
What Next For Alaba?
The Austrian has already appeared 372 times for the German giants to date. At the international level, he is quite experienced too. The 27-year-old has 72 caps for Austria to his name with 14 international goals to his name.
He is a six-time winner of Austrian Footballer of the Year. Further, he also made it thrice in the UEFA Team of the Year. Alaba has won everything for Bayern over the years including eight Bundesliga titles, one Champions League and four DFB-Pokal titles.
It would surely be a good signing if the deal happens. Frank Lampard knows the kind of players that he wants to Chelsea. With that being said, the player can be a huge asset to the west London outfit. Their ambition is to win titles and soon. Whether that happens or not, only time will tell.
