Former England Man Warns Chelsea Boss Frank Lampard Of This Strange Dilemma

Chelsea has been strengthening their ranks with the inclusion of new players. The latest to be added to their lineup is the German forward Timo Werner. The 24-year-old marksman has been in brilliant form this season. He is expected to add a lot of flair to the Blues’ forward line. A move is just about done as per reports. However, there have been some

However, former England man, Owen Hargreaves, is of the opinion that the inclusion of Werner will bring in a sense of dilemma for Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard. It will certainly be a tough ask for the Blues boss to select between Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham. This is with respect to lead the line for the Londoners. Especially with the latter making amazing progress as the main striker this season so far.

What The Former England Left-Back Said?

In a recent interview with BT Sport, the former Manchester United and Bayern Munich player was speaking about the inclusion and the possible impact of the German international in the Chelsea squad. He said, “Well I think he is perfect, I think he could have been perfect for Man United as well but I think it is brilliant for Frank Lampard and Chelsea.”

He added on, “A proven goalscorer but the curious thing for me is how he fits in with Tammy Abraham because I love Tammy’s game and I think he’s been tremendous. So maybe Timo Werner can play off the left side at times but they have multiple players there for those positions, with [Callum] Hudson-Odoi and [Christian] Pulisic.”

Chelsea is currently placed at the fourth position in the Premier League table. They will be looking to make an immediate impact with their young brigade. The team, which has performed fairly well this season so far. With the likes of Tammy Abraham, Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount and Reece James performing at par, the Blues are looking set to strengthen their position on the league table.

They want to grab a Champions League berth for the next term. It will be the main aim when the season restarts on the 17th of this month. The season came to an abrupt halt in March due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Chelsea And The Striker Woe

In absence of any of the big names to lead the line, young Tammy Abraham was handed the responsibility by Lampard this season. He has managed to score goals as the main marksman. Going by his stats of 13 goals and four assists in 25 games so far this season, it can be said that the 22-year-old English striker has done a decent job. However, his main problem has been that he has failed to score in the big games.

On the other hand, Werner has been on target 25 times so far along with eight assists this season in 31 games. He has been making a statement as one of the best strikers available in Europe at the moment. It goes without saying that there will be competition for places. This will happen between the two when the German marksman arrives in Chelsea. It is expected to bring the best out of both Abraham and Werner. This will be benefitting both the players as they look to make a stellar impact in the team’s progress.

Lampard will be keen on starting with a solo striker to lead the line most of the times, just like this season. It is to be seen who gets the nod between Abraham and Werner to spearhead the attack in the future. Most of the fans feel that Werner will not be bought to be benched. That is exactly the reason why he chose Chelsea over Liverpool.

This is an interesting transfer saga that could benefit Chelsea in the long-run. However, whether Lampard is able to make the best out of this situation or not, remains to be seen. Things could get quite interesting now.
