Frank Lampard: In Certain Times, Experience Is Overrated, In My Opinion

Lampard Chelsea

The Chelsea boss justified the team’s chances of making big-name in spite of cradling the youngest squad in the league. Frank Lampard has shown great faith in young feet. His team features at least one young player in every department. The Chelsea attacking line is crowded with youngsters, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Hudson-Odoi, Tammy Abraham and Billy Gilmour being some of the names.

The club has invested money in young stars. It could really pay off for them in the seasons to come. Young players led by a fairly young manager and club legend could be the right combination for Chelsea. Frank Lampard has won it all during his time with the Blues.

He will now want his team to replicate some of the same. Unfortunately, his team lost the FA Cup final 2-1 to Arsenal.

What Frank Lampard Said About The Situation In West London?

The former English midfielder while talking about the advantages of having a young squad said, “I think it is part of the situation we are in and the process we are in here at the minute with a lot of younger players we have and players that are probably playing their first year in the Premier League, let alone playing for Champions League spots and what have you, which is a lot of pressure, is them adapting to that. They need to be helped by the players that have been there and done that and won World Cups or won Premier Leagues like some of the players have in our squad.”

“In certain times, the experience is overrated, in my opinion. It is good to have it within the group but sometimes it does not necessarily mean that it is the answer and that gives you success. Sometimes it is a bit of innocence, a bit of youthfulness and a bit of real desire without the feelings of past campaigns and successes and failures that can be something really positive within.”

He further commented on Manchester City’s inclusion in the Champions League race next year. That was after the Etihad based club’s ban was lifted. He had further told Sky Sports about how he is relishing the challenge posed by his rivals. These included Manchester United, Leicester City and Wolves.

“There are twists and turns every game. These three games are so important for all of us. I did expect Manchester United to be in the race. They can not be in the race with the quality of players they have had this season and the second half of the season with the incoming of Fernandes and his impact, and the way they are playing they were always going to be in the race. Leicester is a fantastic team as well, so I think the race remains on. Wolves are there, Wolves are pushing. It is what it is, it is who performs over these three games, it is so tight.”

What The Chelsea Main-Man Concluded By Saying?

The 42-year-old manager further said that he is definitely not a ‘gung-ho’ manager. The team’s defence has been a concern to him. That is which the squad has been trying to tackle as a unit.

Though this issue is a long-term problem, Chelsea will want to resolve it soon. It has already cost them in the Champions League and other competitions as well. Their main aim will be to compete with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City soon. Lampard has been brought in to do just that.

Frank Lampard added: “In terms of defensively, there is a way that I want us to play and it is not gung-ho, it is not crazy. A lot of the goals are the balls that come into our box that maybe we do not defend right at that moment and that is something that has to improve and I feel I know the answers to it.”

“Some of it is work and that is something we will see and it is part of the process we are in. I do not like it, I hate conceding goals but we have to work harder on it. Do not think any team in modern football are going to say ‘We have got that one defensive partnership’.”
