Watch: A Crazy Delivery From The BBL That Produced Almost Everything

Big Bash

The BBL Funny Incident That Went Viral- Never seen a batsman get run-out twice? Adelaide Strikers batsman Jake Weatherald on Sunday found himself short of the crease at both ends in a bizarre dismissal against Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League. Jake Weatherald – who had gotten a decent start scoring 31 runs off 26 balls – was at the nonstriker’s end as his fellow batsman Phillip Salt faced Thunders’ Chris Green. Taking on a full delivery, Salt struck it straight back down the pitch, close enough to Green, so he could get a finger to the ball and divert it back onto the stumps.

Green immediately appealed as Salt called Weatherald over for a single while the latter was ball-watching. In a call here and there, Jake started off really slow and eventually, wicket-keeper Sam Billings broke the stumps before he could make it to the other end.

Sam Billings hurt himself while diving at the stumps. Going to the third umpire, Weatherald was seen short at the non-striker’s end and at the striker’s end too. However, the rules of the game say that a batsman cannot be ruled out twice on one ball and hence the first dismissal — at the non-striker’s end — stood, and Weatherald had to walk back to the pavilion. The replay showed how Philip Salt had reached the non-striker’s end before Weatherald started.

The Video That Went Viral From The BBL; What An Incident?

“Weatherald, what is he doing?” followed by a “terrible running” remark. A lazy Weatherald had hardly even left his crease to back up but did not manage to ground his bat in time. Somehow, Weatherald had managed to get himself run out twice in the same ball, which was just funny!

Brendon Julian said during his time on-air in Fox Cricket commentary, “Jake Weatherald, what is he doing!? Terrible running. Weatherald has had a couple of close shaves with the run-outs. This time he finally gets one done.”

The Commentators And Former Australian Players Had Fun Too And Were Totally Bemused

Mark Waugh went on to add, “He was not even backing up that far either, and he is still out … I think he has got to work on his running between wickets. Seriously, he has got to concentrate more.”

When the replay showed he would have been dismissed by a superb piece of keeping by Sam Billings at the other end, Waugh laughed: “I have never ever seen that before.”

Brett Lee was also surprised and went on to add, “I have never seen anyone run out twice.”

The BBL Has Produced Some Crazy Moments Once Again This Season

Lee was shocked by Weatherald’s technique: “I just noticed there, it is almost like the teapot. He was standing there with his hand on his hip, backing up, Jake Weatherald.”

Waugh added: “He was not backing up, he is just standing there. Good player, but got to wake up when he is running between wickets.”

Strikers coach and Australian great Jason Gillespie also said it was a first for his career: “No, that is a first for sure. We thought it was tight at the bowler’s end but he was certainly out twice.”

The dismissal was credited to Green, given his run-out occurred before Billings. It was just so funny and the BBL produced another crazy moment. A moment that trended once again on Social Media. Just the way that BBL 10 has been so far.
