They have dominated in the first half and created many opportunities. Ben Chilwell has passed the ball towards Timo Werner and the German centre forward has placed it towards the goal perfectly. The lead in the first match has been immensely important for Chelsea in this vital match.

Thomas Tuchel has come with a  typical 3-4-2-1 formation and he has taken a bit defensive approach in this game. Tuchel has used Cesar Azpilicueta as the right wing-back. Generally, Azpilicueta plays at the right centre back position. Bowen and Lingard’s partnership has been doing well for West Ham United in the recent past. So, they might have targeted Chelsea’s right side of the defence. So, Christensen has been used as the right centre back. Thiago Silva has been operating from the centre of the defence. Antonio Rudiger has played as the left centre back with Ben Chilwell operating from the wings at the same side.

His shot has been saved by Fabianski and the ball has come directly towards Timo Werner. Werner has the chance to kill the game off at the beginning of the second half. However, he has missed that one-on-one situation. Chelsea’s defensive record under Thomas Tuchel has certainly been impressive. Despite the 5-2 defeat against West Bromwich Albion, Chelsea’s defensive unit has always maintained its shape. Jorginho and Kante have been brilliant in the midfield. Mateo Kovacic has not been available for this game. In his absence, Chelsea has been able to maintain their shape in the midfield.

Hakim Ziyech has come in the field in place of Christian Pulisic in the second half. Tammy Abraham and Reece James have also been used as substitutes. Balbuena has received a direct red card because of his high boot challenge on Ben Chilwell with the assistance of VAR. The manager of West Ham United, David Moyes has been furious after the decision. There have been a few words exchanged between David Moyes and Cesar Azpilicueta at the touchline. Tammy Abraham has got a brilliant opportunity to double the lead for Chelsea. However, his header has gone wide at the last minute of the match. Chelsea will now lock horns against Fulham in the Premier League after the first leg of the Champions League semifinal.
