WATCH: Marnus Labuscagne Controversial Catch Sparks Debate In Cricket Fraternity

A catch by Marnus Labuscagne in the Sheffield Shield match between Queensland and New South Wales has garnered a lot of controversies lately.

There was a huge controversy regarding the Sheffield Shield match between Queensland and New South Wales. This incident has kicked off a new debate in the cricketing world. The Australian prolific batsman Marnus Labuschagne is at the centre of the controversy. This controversial incident happened right at the fag end of the New South Wales’ innings. Their innings ended with the heat of the controversy.

Cricket fans all over the world might have been utterly confused when the on-field umpired gave his decision OUT against Baxter Holt after an awkward effort from Marnus Labuschagne. Holt was looking to smack the leg spinner Mitchell Swepson over mid-on. However, he could not hit it properly and miscued it too long. The catch looked like a regulation one and Labuschagne also completed the catch without facing any trouble.

However, just after a few second, the real drama began. Just after he has taken the catch, Labuschagne tripped over his legs awkwardly. While trying to regain his balance, the ball popped out of his hands and fell to the ground. At that moment, even one commentator shouted ‘dropped’. Then, he went on to say that Labuschagne might have held onto the ball for a sufficient amount of time to claim the catch rightfully.

However, the other commentator was not satisfied with the catch. He felt that the catch was not legitimate and said “That was a little peculiar”. Amidst all this confusion in the commentary box, the on-field umpires gave the decision as OUT and the players walked back to the Pavillion for the innings break.

The incident has been the centre of controversy in the cricketing world

The batsman Baxter Holt did not protest against the decision. However, the cricket pundits were not satisfied with the decision. So, they felt that the umpires should not have given it OUT, as Labuscagne lost control of the ball and his movement. This incident is kinda same as the incident in the 1999 Cricket World Cup where Herschelle Gibbs dropped an infamous catch.

The rules state that “The act of making a catch … shall end when a fielder obtains complete control over both the ball and his/her movement.”

This really got the fans and Cricket Pundits talking. Controversy at its best always tends to attract a lot of attention. That is the case always and Social Media went berserk once again.

Reactions flooded Twitter regarding the controversial catch by Marnus Labuscagne

Most of them feel that the catch was not legitimate

Coming to the game, Queensland ended Day 2 in a strong position. At Stump’s, On Day 2, Queensland lost two wickets for 184 runs. Marnus Labuscagne is unbeaten on 84 and Usman Khawaja is batting on 12. Bryce Street scored a half-century earlier in their innings. On the other hand, Joe Burns scored 15. Off-spinner Nathan Lyon dismissed both of these batsmen.

Well, in either way it was good to see something controversial on the pitch yet again. The fans love getting into such debates and it is hard to say which side is right or wrong. You decide!! For now, we at Beyond The Posts wish Marnus Labuscagne the very best for the rest of the season!!
