Round-Of-16 Round-Up; Arsenal, Manchester United & Manchester City Stars Shine At Euro 2020

The round-of-16 of UEFA Euro 2020 has begun and there have been quite a few upsets already in this tournament. No one has been to predict a quarter-final involving Denmark and the Czech Republic ahead of the tournament and there lies the beauty of it. Denmark, Italy, Czech Republic and Belgium have qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament. The other four teams are fighting for grabbing the next two spots.

The latest update on the games being played in the round-of-16 of the Euro 2020 tournament-

1. Denmark Vs Wales:

Denmark thrashed Wales in the first match of the round of 16 in this tournament. The Danes started as the favourites in this match. However, Wales have got few opportunities to take the lead in the first half of the match. Kasper Dolberg has scored two important goals for his side in the round of 16. Poulsen has not been available for the match due to a knock. Joachim Maehle and Martin Brathwaite have also put their names on the score sheet. It has been a sad end of the tournament for Wales after a good beginning in the group stage.

2. Italy Vs Austria:

Austria has played brilliant football against Italy in the second match of the round-of-16. They have been able to keep the scoreline 0-0 for the regulation of 90 minutes. The forward line of Italy had been completely ineffective against a good defensive organization of Austria. Substitutions did the job for the Azzuris in the round-of-16 tie. Chiesa came as a substitute and he has scored the first goal for Italy in the first half of the extra time.

It has been a brilliant pass from Spinazolla and Chiesa has not done any mistake to put it inside the goal. Pessina has doubled the lead for Italy in the extra time. However, Austria has pulled one back; but they have failed to equalise in the second half of the extra time. Italy will now face Belgium at Munich on Friday night in the quarter-final.

3. Netherlands Vs Czech Republic:

The Pundits thought that the match would have been a cakewalk for the Dutch National team. However, Czech Republic stunned them with a 2-0 win in the quarter-final. The Netherlands has been awful in the final third right throughout the tournament.

Donyell Malen has missed a golden opportunity to give the lead to the Netherlands. De Ligt was shown a red card for a professional handball just outside the box. After going down to ten men, Netherlands have failed to keep their momentum in the attacking third. The Czech Republic has penetrated more and they have got their reward.

4. Belgium Vs Portugal:

This match certainly got the most attractive in the round-of-16 of this season’s European Championship. Thorgan Hazard scored a brilliant goal at the closing stages of the first half. Kevin De Bruyne was subbed off at the 46th minute of the match with a knee injury. After this substitution, Belgium has gone way too defensive and Portugal has not been able to break the organized defensive setup of Belgium. However, it will be difficult for Belgium to survive in the quarter-final without the likes of Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne (who have not been completely ruled out yet).

5. Croatia Vs Spain:

Spain has gone through to the quarter-final with a win against Croatia in the extra time. Spain has taken the lead of 3-1 in the match. However, Croatia made a comeback and the match has ended with a scoreline of 3-3 after 90 minutes. Alvaro Morata has scored the fourth goal for Spain in the extra time. They doubled their lead in the first half of the extra time. Now, Spain will face Switzerland in the quarter-finals on Saturday.

In the extra time, no team has been able to take the lead. In the penalty shootout, Kylian Mbappe has missed the last one for France and Switzerland have qualified for the quarter-final of the tournament.
