The IPL 2021 tournament recently concluded with the T20 World Cup starting. The BCCI is hosting the competition in Oman and UAE. The group stages of the competition have already begun and the bigger teams (wrt ranking) are playing warm-up games. Amid these matches, England skipper Eoin Morgan has come up with a rather controversial statement.
The KKR and England skipper has not been having the best of times. Though he has enjoyed some success as a skipper, his form with the bat has been awful. He has failed to make a substantial contribution and has just been in the team as a mentor.
This has not gone down well with the critics and the former players of the English team. No one has been more displeased than Eoin Morgan himself. Due to this, he has now made a controversial statement related to his place in the team for the T20 World Cup.
What Did Eoin Morgan Say About His Place In The England Team For The T20 World Cup?
After losing the IPL 2021 final to CSK, Morgan recognized the problem. He could understand that his lack of runs was hurting the team. He did not want to repeat it for The Three Lions and said, “Have been shy of runs. However, my captaincy has been very acceptable. Generally figured out how to regard them as two distinct difficulties. You get two nibbles at the cherry affecting the game.”
“With respect to my batting, I would not be remaining here on the off chance that I had not emerged from each awful run of structure that has had at any point ever.”
“The idea of Twenty20 cricket and where I bat implies I generally need to take very high danger choices and have dealt with that. It is the idea of the work so I will keep facing those challenges if the group needs them – on the off chance that they do not, I will not.”
With England’s squad full of run-scoring potential, Morgan conceded that he may consider the option of dropping himself if the need does arise. He added, “It is consistently a choice. Am not going to disrupt the general flow of the group winning the World Cup.”
What Next For The Three Lions Who Are Considered One Of The Favourites To Win The Competition?
This is indeed a big call for the 50-over World Cup holders at present. Though they have a great team and a really good skipper, his lack of form could be a deciding factor. That is why it does make sense to include a player who is in form. It will be a tough call to make, as the game of cricket has many factors involved.
The competition is just in its initial phase and there is still a long way to go. Morgan did not play in the opening warmup game against India. England lost that match, though they scored a brilliant 188 in their first innings. Will this be the way that the English side goes in the T20 World Cup? Let’s wait and watch!!
