Real Madrid Wants To Sign This Chelsea Defender In The Summer

Despite reports that negotiations between Real Madrid and Antonio Rudiger have progressed to a promising point, Chelsea is aiming to sign him to a new contract.

According to Portuguese journalist Pedro Almeida, Real Madrid are apparently in advanced discussions to sign Antonio Rudiger on a Bosman transfer during the summer transfer window next year. Rudiger is expected to join Real Madrid in the summer of 2022. Chelsea, on the other hand, has not given up on their efforts to guarantee the long-term future of the German defender.

Antonio Rudiger joined Chelsea from AS Roma in the summer of 2017, and he has gone a long way in that short period of time. While the 28-year-old defender has seen his fair share of difficulties throughout his time with the Blues, he has not looked back since Thomas Tuchel was appointed as Frank Lampard’s successor.

Rudiger has gone on to become one of the best defenders in the Premier League

Since joining Chelsea in 2017, Rudiger has made 164 appearances for the club, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in the process. Rudiger is largely considered as one of the top defenders in the Premier League. The Blues, on the other hand, are in a difficult situation regarding his long-term future, as the former VfB Stuttgart defender is entering the last year of his contract. Real Madrid has been made aware of the issue.

Real Madrid’s interest is reasonable, given the fact that they elected not to refill their squad numbers appropriately after the losses of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane over the summer. When it came to defensive reinforcements during the last transfer window, David Alaba was the lone player signed by Los Blancos, a choice that has come back to haunt them to some degree.

Rudiger’s long term future at Stamford Bridge is in doubt

As a result, it should come as no surprise that Real Madrid is said to be on the lookout for a centre-back, with Rudiger a possible target. Chelsea, on the other hand, is seeking to lock down the 28-year-old to a new deal. Furthermore, it has been stated that Rudiger is open to the possibility of remaining at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea, on the other hand, has failed to submit a contract offer that is acceptable to both parties, allowing Real Madrid to take the initiative. Los Blancos might even have a pre-contract deal with Rudiger in place in as little as two months. As reported by Pedro Almeida, the Spanish giants are now engaged in advanced negotiations with the German defender.

Rudiger’s long-term future is in doubt, and it will be intriguing to see whether Chelsea can turn the tide and clinch his signature before Real Madrid can complete their acquisition. Rudiger is expected to depart Chelsea as a free agent at the end of the season.
