BAN vs SL Live Update: Left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman’s preference for white-ball cricket over red-ball cricket did not sit well with Bangladesh team director Khaled Mahmud. He expressed his displeasure with the decision. Mustafizur Rahman, who is now a member of the Delhi Capitals squad for the IPL 2022, has said that he would want to play more one-day internationals and Twenty20 internationals to be able to continue playing the game for a long period. Mahmud was unimpressed by the comment. He believed that Mustafizur still has a lot to give in the world of red-ball cricket.
The 26-year-old has been left out of Bangladesh’s squad for the forthcoming first Test against Sri Lanka. His Test career hasn’t progressed in the manner that it should have. Mustafizur Rahman has played only 14 Tests since making his international debut in 2015. He has taken 30 wickets at an average of 36.73. Rahman has yet to get a five-wicket haul. Despite being a monster bowler in limited-overs cricket, his statistics show that he hasn’t given Test cricket the attention it deserves.
Mustafizur Rahman has the potential to be a deadly bowler in red-ball cricket, in my opinion: Khaled Mahmud
Mr. Khaled Mahmud said that Mustafizur is still young enough to be able to play all three formats. He feels that he has not yet achieved the standards of Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, or Shakib Al Hasan. Thus, allowing him to select whatever format he would want to play. He emphasized the significance of representing the nation in Test matches. Mahmud said that Mustafizur Rahman is still the finest bowler in the country in terms of technical ability.
“Can you tell me how old Mustafizur is? For how long has he been involved in cricketing activities? In contrast to Shakib, Tamim, Mushfiqur, and Mashrafe, who have all served the national team in all three forms for several years, he has only played in one format for a short period. Playing for your nation is very essential,” Mahmud told the media today during a press conference at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
“I would want Mustafizur to represent Bangladesh in Test matches. Given his technical and tactical abilities, he is the most effective pacer we have available to us. While he is considered a dangerous pacer in the white-ball format, I feel he has the potential to be a dangerous bowler in the red-ball format as well,” he said.
