DC vs SRH IPL 2022: The Delhi Capitals (DC), captain, and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has shown his ability to strike the ball in all formats of the game. He has been particularly effective in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Following a successful first season as captain, he was re-signed by the team’s management ahead of the 2022 season auction.
However, he has not been at his best with the bat this season. He has surrendered his wicket in crucial situations on many occasions. Wasim Jaffer and Deep Dasgupta, both former Indian cricketers, shared their thoughts on Rishabh Pant’s current form before the match between the Delhi Capitals and the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Pant had accumulated 234 runs in eight innings. He was averaging 33.43 runs per inning and striking out 149.04. When questioned about this data, Jaffer said that although it is a respectable showing, it does not meet the high standards set by Pant. Pant, according to him, has made a significant tactical blunder in his leadership. He wants him to do far better in the future. Pant, according to the former Indian batter, is most suited to the Twenty20 format. He must perform well in the remaining matches of the season.
“Those are respectable stats [in this season]. But they are not representative of his overall performance in Test matches, One-Day Internationals, and Twenty20s. He has batted in a variety of places,” stated Jaffer on Sky247.net’s ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker, which was broadcast on CricTracker.
“Some of the decisions made by him, the captain, have been unexpected as well. I anticipated him to be a lot better after the no-ball dispute and the use of [Rovman] Powell at number three on occasion. He hasn’t exactly blown the roof off the IPL so far. But I anticipate him doing so. This format is ideal for Pant. The squad relies on him to produce in the last five games to ensure that they qualify for the playoffs,” he said.
DC vs SRH IPL 2022: So far this season, Pant hasn’t been able to finish games: Deep Dasgupta
Deep Dasgupta believes that Pant is a valuable player in all formats. But that his performance in the current season has been sub-par. He believes that leadership duty does place pressure on the player. The player must accept responsibility. This responsibility should not come at the expense of altering one’s purpose. He went on to say that the captain of the Delhi Capitals has demonstrated the ability to win close games in the past. But he has been unable to do so this season.
“Pant is an impactful player. But we can’t recall any impactful innings from him so far. For someone like Rishabh, I don’t mind if he doesn’t score 500 or 600 runs every season. However, I do expect him to win games. I understand the leadership responsibility. But he is not a KL Rahul or a Shikhar Dhawan, who would hit 500-600 runs in a season. For me, he may give you 300 runs. All of them will be in match-winning situations, which I haven’t seen enough of,” Dasgupta said.
