KKR vs MI IPL 2022: Piyush Chawla feels that during the IPL 2022 match between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians on Monday, the third umpire made the correct decision in dismissing batsman Rohit Sharma.
The captain of the Indian team was taken aback when the third umpire adjudged him out. Many speculated that Sharma’s loss was caused by a technical issue with the UltraEdge. It was compounded by some bad umpiring on the part of the officials.
UltraEdge has spikes on it even before the ball had a chance to travel through the bat. However, in an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Piyush Chawla stated why he believed there was sufficient evidence to send the MI captain back, saying:
“No, I don’t believe that is true (on whether Rohit Sharma was wrongly given out). Since a third umpire needed proof to make a judgment. There was an obvious spike in the game.”
KKR vs MI IPL 2022: It was an entirely different level of performance from Jasprit Bumrah’s against KKR: Piyush Chawla
Jasprit Bumrah was named Player of the Match despite MI being thrashed by KKR by 52 runs. Bumrah’s 5/10 was the greatest IPL performance of his career. The 28-year-old was absolutely unplayable in the latter stages of the game. He conceded just five runs in his last three overs and scooped up five wickets in the process.
Bumrah wasn’t having the best of campaigns. He had taken only five wickets in the first ten games of the season. Piyush Chawla, on the other hand, believes that even though the speedster did not get a wicket, he was still doing a good job, saying:
“The sharpness (in Bumrah’s bowling) was evident from the start. It was only that he didn’t have a large number of wickets to his credit. However, the manner in which he bowled today was on an entirely different level.”
What did Chawla say about Ishan Kishan?
Ishan Kishan was the lone bright spot in the MI’s batting against the KKR. He scored a valiant half-century in the first innings. The 23-year-old, on the other hand, wasn’t as fluid as he is when he is in peak condition. Piyush Chawla has the following to say about this:
“It’s not that he’s losing his X-factor, as some have said. However, when you aren’t in peak condition, it tends to take a little longer and even your strengths don’t work in your favour. In other words, you can’t claim that he is losing his X-factor. But he isn’t in peak physical condition.”
With their batting failing them once again, it’s definitely time for MI to make some changes and offer some opportunities to youngsters like Dewald Brevis and new acquisition Tristan Stubbs to show what they can do.
On Monday evening at DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai Indians bowler Jasprit Bumrah was on fire as he tore through the Kolkata Knight Riders’ lineup. Rattling the Knight Riders’ batting squad, the right-arm pacer returned with a fifer at the cost of just 10 runs in four overs. In 20 overs, KKR amassed a total of 165/9.
Even so, MI was bowled out for 113. They were eliminated from the tournament.
