Latest Liverpool News: According to a report from Sport Bild, which was obtained by Inside Futbol, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is said to have given the go-ahead for the transfer of star striker Sadio Mane in the face of interest from Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich.
During the Klopp era, Mane has been one of the players at Liverpool who has performed the best. The striker was acquired by the German manager from Southampton in the summer of 2016 for a transfer fee of 41.2 million euros. Since making the transfer, the Senegalese international has contributed 120 goals and 48 assists across all competitions. Thus, assisting the team in capturing every conceivable trophy that was up for grabs at the time.
Latest Liverpool News: What’s the report?
Several trophies have been taken home by the Reds. It includes the FA Cup (2021-22), the Premier League (2019-20), and the Champions League (2018-19), all of which were won with Mane at the helm.
It is reported that Mane is seeking a way out of his current deal with the Merseyside giants before it expires in 2023. Liverpool is willing to let the 30-year-old player leave this summer for the “appropriate price”. He is approaching the last year of his contract with the club.
According to Sport Bild (via Inside Futbol), Klopp has acknowledged Mane’s choice. He has said that he would not stand in his way moving forward. The versatile forward’s sale has been “authorized” by the Liverpool coach. The new manager will attempt to bring in a new player during the summer transfer window to take his position.
The expectation at Bayern Munich is that the deal will be finalized for a cost of €35 million. However, Mane is now worth €80 million (according to Transfermarkt). So, the 19-time English champions may not be willing to settle for a cost so low.
Next season, Liverpool would miss Sadio Mane due to his high work rate and flexibility
It’s possible that Liverpool won’t miss Sadio Mane’s goal contributions to the team next season. It is thanks to the presence of players like Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, Luis Diaz, and Fabio Carvalho in their lineup. However, they would most likely be missing his very high work rate as well as his adaptability.
Since his transfer from Southampton, the Senegalese international has been used in a variety of attacking roles. These include roles on the left flank, the right-wing, and as a false nine. He has been very successful in each of these positions. But he has never once voiced any complaints about having to play outside of his natural position.
He has also been the player who has put forth the most effort for Klopp. Mane has chased down every ball and pressed hard till the last whistle. Thus, orcing the other team to make errors and forcing them into their own.
Klopp is known for his ability to find success even in the most challenging of circumstances. If Mane is transferred to another club, it will be fascinating to see how his new teammate replaces the unrivaled endurance and selflessness of the former Southampton player.
