Arsenal has surfaced as a prospective destination for former Manchester City sensation Leroy Sane, according to legendary journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 108 games he has played for Bayern Munich in all competitions have resulted in 34 goals and 33 assists for the technical operator who has earned 50 caps for Germany.

Leroy Sane to Arsenal?

As O’Rourke said to Give Me Sport, Sane may be open to a transfer to Arsenal because of his friendship with Gunners manager Mikel Arteta from their time together at Manchester City. Specifically, he made the following statement:

“I think it could only help, if there’s any potential move for Leroy Sane, if he knows people that he has previously worked with, like Mikel Arteta. I’m sure it will come into his thinking and he will definitely seriously consider a move to Arsenal because Arteta’s there, and the players that he’s played with as well.”

Sane is also acquainted with Gunners duo Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko. They both joined the north London team from Manchester City for a combined cost of over £66 million earlier this summer.

90min reports that Arsenal reportedly contacted Bayern Munich regarding Sane. However, the Bundesliga giants have emphasized that they have no intention of letting him go. On the other hand, Sane is presently assessing his options but is unlikely to seek a permanent swap.

Sane, who has a contract through June 2025 at the Allianz Arena, has tallied 10 goals and six assists in 19 total appearances this year.

As reported by The Athletic, Brentford defender Ben Mee drew parallels between Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven and Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City. He elaborated:

“There is something of De Bruyne about him. He is developing a similar range and vision in his passing. I’ve seen him deliver pinpoint passes with the outside of his boot, clever balls guided round the corner or into space for team-mates to collect on the run. He clearly has a decent cross in him.”

Mee said that, apart from De Bruyne’s passing range, the Arsenal and Liverpool target possesses a shooting technique comparable to De Bruyne’s.

“He hits it like De Bruyne too, as he showed with his finish – struck so cleanly – against Qatar. Then there’s that ability to collect, spin and drive up-field with the ball, something we’ve seen De Bruyne do countless times for City and definitely a skill Gakpo replicates.”

Gakpo, at the young age of 23, has established himself as one of Europe’s most promising prospects because of his stellar performances for both club and country. In 33 games this season, he has 18 goals and 18 assists to show for it.
