After being widely linked to a transfer to Old Trafford last summer, Manchester United might reignite their interest in Ajax defender Jurrien Timber

According to The Sun, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has ordered scouts to keep a close eye on Ajax’s teenage defender Jurrien Timber. Close to finalizing a move to the Premier League, the Netherlands international was a fan favourite.

In the summer of 2022, United manager Ten Hag opted to acquire Argentine central defender Lisandro Martinez from Ajax to play with Raphael Varane. Martinez was Timber’s previous teammate at Ajax.

Timber reportedly turned down a transfer to United after receiving advice from Louis van Gaal, the former United manager and current Dutch manager, that doing so would hurt Timber’s chances of making the Netherlands’ World Cup team.

It’s no surprise that ten Hag is keeping tabs on him. he can play defence in a variety of different positions. Since his ties with United, the 21-year-old has signed an extension, although he may yet go for the Premier League.

United’s defensive line is deep at the moment. But Harry Maguire’s future is still in the air. This might put a damper on United’s campaign. The captain of the Red Devils has plummeted down the team’s depth chart. They are seeing drastically less playing time as a result. While Varane’s injury issues persist, he may be traded this summer. A defender with Timber’s defensive versatility would be especially appreciated in England.

The likes of Cody Gakpo and Tyrell Malacia, who made the jump to the English Premier League, might be good examples for him to follow. Timber may be Ajax’s third player to join Manchester United, after the sales of Martinez and Antony, but he wouldn’t come cheap.

Since the Eredivisie has done so much to shape ten Hag’s career, he wants to continue doing so for as long as possible by recruiting players from the Dutch first division. Man United may stand in the way of Tottenham’s pursuit of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhe. He has reportedly attracted attention from the Premier League club in recent days.

Will Manchester United get him?

Osimhen is said to be on the English authorities’ most wanted list. It was reported last week by journalist Rudy Galetti that Tottenham may pursue Osimhen to replace Harry Kane. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly a fan of Napoli star Emmanuel Osimhen.

However, Manchester United has the potential to surpass even the best of those teams. The Express cites an article from Il Mattino, which states that United are actively pursuing a contract with Osimhen. They say that they have spoken with “middlemen” who are actively seeking to broker a deal. According to rumours, United is trying to recruit Osimhen before the summer ends.

Osimhen has been praised as “phenomenal” for his play in a Napoli uniform. The Nigerian forward has scored 13 times in only 17 appearances this season. Osimhen might wind up becoming a Serie A champion at the end of May. He had a great performance against Liverpool in the Champions League. In 2020, Napoli forked out almost £70 million to acquire Osimhen.
