“I Am Going To Leave Liverpool”, Important First Team Player Set To Leave Anfield

Liverpool NewsNow

Liverpool Newsnow: James Milner, a fan favourite in Jurgen Klopp’s locker room and a veteran standout on the pitch, may be leaving Liverpool in the offseason, according to reports

Liverpool Newsnow: James Milner, a midfielder for Liverpool, may be leaving the club at the conclusion of the season, as reported by CBS reporter Ben Jacobs (via Give Me Sport).

The 0-0 draw between Liverpool and Chelsea on Tuesday night should have been another wake-up call that major change is necessary this summer.

Jacobs said to GMS: “The club have not started anything with Milner yet. Because we’re getting now close towards the contract expiring at the end of the season, if Liverpool did want to keep Milner, they obviously would have started something now and, to my understanding, they haven’t.

So it looks like James Milner will leave Liverpool at the end of the season and we wait and see whether anything on the field changes that over the last few games of the season. But Liverpool have not yet instigated anything with Milner, so until they do, whether Milner wants to stay or not is irrelevant, because if there are no talks taking place, then his contract will just expire.”

With Kai Havertz trying too hard to score goals and Todd Boehly spending £500 million+ over the previous two transfer seasons, the Blues should have won handily. The Reds’ chances of making the top 4 suffered a set back. But, still able to contend despite playing with a much-changed starting XI. For Klopp, this summer is of the utmost importance.

The German has recognized that a major overhaul is necessary, particularly since many of his existing players will be leaving. Priority will be placed on bolstering the club’s midfield, with the departures of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (a free agent), Naby Keita (on a free transfer), and Arthur Melo (loan expiration).

If Liverpool’s front office doesn’t take Klopp up on his offer of a new one-year contract, vice captain James Milner might follow suit.

David Ornstein of The Athletic recently revealed that Liverpool had not even begun contract negotiations with Milner. Klopp does not want to lose one of his most reliable players over the years when his contract expires at the end of the season, but Liverpool’s upper management seems determined to go on with new midfield additions anyway.

What’s next for the Reds?

Since joining Liverpool from Manchester City on a free transfer in 2015, the versatile veteran has won every major title there is to win with the Reds. Although he is towards the conclusion of his lengthy and great career, the Englishman has proved to be a value buy for Liverpool. He has been contributing well to Klopp’s team this season.

He’s been doing a little bit of everything and pushing the underachievers around him. So he may be useful to Liverpool even in this rebuilding phase. On the other hand, with the Reds planning a roster overhaul this summer, the question arises:

Given the Reds’ struggles this year, maybe £120,000 of Milner’s weekly pay might be better spent elsewhere. Regardless of the outcome of the dispute, it seems like he will be one of the players leaving Anfield this summer.
