For his first taste of the big leagues, he was sent out on loan. Since then, he’s established himself as a mainstay in their starting lineup.
Within the last year, the 21-year-old has flourished. This season he has played in 41 games and contributed to two goals. The Ecuadorian international has been their most consistent performer and has seldom made a mistake all season.
The Gunners were serious about signing him before the winter. They made a serious effort to sign him. However, the Seagulls ultimately decided to go with another offer. The team could not afford to lose its best midfielder in the middle of the season.
