Chelsea Newsnow: Simon Phillips of GiveMeSport claims that Chelsea is very close to extending Mason Mount’s contract. The 24-year-old midfielder has been pursued by other European teams. But the Blues are ready to make concessions in order to get him.
Mount’s status with the team has been up in the air for some time. The player reportedly was not satisfied with the parameters of the agreement presented by his club. This led to the breakdown in contract extension discussions. And at the end of the summer, he was planning on leaving the team he had grown up with.
However, the most recent reports indicate that the club is open to negotiation. Initially, they hoped to have the England international sign a long-term deal. The player, however, was not enthusiastic about this. He proposed a shorter term to the new contract the team was proposing. They were close to accepting.
Mount is obligated to the Blues through the next season’s summer of 2024. His eighty thousand pounds per week contract expires in less than eighteen months. And there was discussion of his leaving the group he’s been a member of since boyhood.
