Chelsea Newnsow: Football Insider reports that Ian Maatsen is wanted back at Burnley this summer. As a result of the left back’s strong performance last year under Vincent Kompany, the Clarets are considering extending his loan or signing him permanently. They are in need of more quality players. And Maatsen fits the bill and the club could go after him.

After spending a season in the Championship, several clubs quickly bounce back to the Premier League. Burnley was relegated last year. However, they have since taken the correct moves by hiring the proper manager in order to return to the Premier League.

With Kompany at the helm, this drastically revamped team is now atop the Championship. He has all but secured promotion to the Premier League for the next campaign. The Belgian hasn’t only improved his team’s performance by recruiting and acquiring the proper players. He’s also altered the way they play.

Burnley have evolved from a somewhat pragmatic approach to one of the division’s deadly attacking groups. Despite being connected to major management opportunities like the Tottenham post, Kompany wishes to continue his initiative.

Burnley as a club will want to lock up contracts for players like Ian Maatsen. The 21-year-old Chelsea wide-back has been spending the season with the Clarets and has excelled under Kompany’s tutelage.

His four goals and six assists show that he has been an asset both defensively and in the attacking third. Since he is entering the final year of his contract, Maatsen must return to Chelsea over the offseason to consider his options.

Burnley wants to keep him around, thus they’re willing to re-sign him. The Clarets may see an opening with Chelsea due to Maatsen’s contract problem. They may attempt to sign him for the next season or perhaps permanently. Given Chelsea’s predicament, they may want to cash in if a fair offer comes around.

Chelsea has an abundance of strong left-back options. They are still committed to hiring Ben Chilwell. He is very close to signing a new deal. Marc Cucurella is still still around. He’s looking forward to making up for lost time with the club in the next year.

Maatsen, meanwhile, has spent the last three seasons away from the club and is a potential free agent come next summer. The 21-year-old saw action for the Blues first team for 19 minutes in the 2019 League Cup match against Grimsby.
