For Denzel Dumfries, Arsenal apparently has offered a strange part-exchange deal featuring Takehiro Tomiyasu
Arsenal is reportedly interested in acquiring Denzel Dumfries, as reported by Italian media site Calciomercatoweb. For the 26-year-old Dutch defender, the Gunners are prepared to offer a ridiculous player-plus-cash deal that includes Takehiro Tomiyasu.
What’s the report?
For what it’s worth, Dumfries seems to be a solid addition to Arsenal’s roster. However, it’s debatable whether or not the team needs a decent right back. According to the report, though, Arsenal is willing to trade Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu and about €40 million in cash for the Dutchman. Given Dumfries’s prominence at Arsenal, the whole idea is laughable.
Ben White, a former Brighton & Hove Albion defender, has been forced to play right back for Mikel Arteta this season despite his preference for playing central defence. Despite being a solid defender, White’s offensive prowess is lacking. Once Dumfries joins the Arsenal attack, things heated up.
The Dutchman is a versatile player who excels in both the offensive and defensive thirds. The 26-year-old is entering his prime and has the potential to provide his finest football for Arsenal in the coming years. To what extent Inter Milan is prepared to accept Arsenal’s offer for the Dutch international is a mystery.
Arsenal wants to sign him in January
Given their current financial situation, the Serie A heavyweights may be willing to sell Dumfries for a good price. The plan put forward by Arsenal is quite alluring in theory. When Stefan de Vrij’s contract with Inter Milan ends, he will be a free agent. Tomiyasu might step in as a substitute.
They’ll also have enough money to sign a right back. What happens over the next several weeks will be quite intriguing. Chelsea is another team that has shown interest in the youngster.
Arsenal has assembled a strong team this year. They are now among the title contenders. Mikel Arteta’s team is now in first place. Arsenal boss Arteta will be looking to lead them to domestic triumph this year.
