A new contract for Granit Xhaka, 30-years-old, has been approved by Mikel Arteta after the Swiss international’s impressive season
The TEAMtalk website claims that Granit Xhaka is close to signing a new contract with Arsenal following a fantastic season. Also, Mikel Arteta is allowed to speak with the 30-year-old Swiss captain because of the latter’s prominence in the locker room.
As recently as the year 2019, Granit Xhaka has shown interest in leaving the club. Several Arsenal supporters voiced their desire for him to go. It seemed that his exit was possible. After cupping his ears toward the supporters and hearing boos during the match against Crystal Palace, the then-captain of the Gunners flung his jersey on the ground.
A departure date of January 2020 was set in stone. While Xhaka was considering leaving in January 2020, Mikel Arteta’s arrival in December 2019 was enough to keep him at the club. And we’ll see where things go from there. The 30-year-old gambled that things would improve at the club under the Spanish boss and saw his bet pay off.

What’s the matter?
Xhaka came very close to signing with AS Roma in the summer of 2021. It’s possible that the player stayed at the Emirates due to Arsenal’s inability to replace him at the time. The Swiss captain’s decision to stay with the club for another three years came as a complete surprise to fans.
Since then, he’s developed into one of Arteta’s most important players. And new contracts might be signed before the current season concludes. As Arsenal continue their fight to win the Premier League, Xhaka has started every Premier League game this year.
Granit Xhaka staying with Arsenal?
The 30-year-old has switched positions and now has more opportunities to attack the ball. He has never previously scored three goals or assisted on five in an Arsenal season. The rising stars for the Gunners look up to Xhaka as a leader, and he is respected for both his on-field and off-field contributions.

Both Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka are likely to sign new contracts with Arsenal. The contract may be discussed in the near future after Arteta apparently gave the go-ahead for negotiations with his team. Xhaka is also considering staying with the club.
In addition to re-signing Brazilian duo Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli, Arsenal is interested in extending the contract of William Saliba.
