£52m Arsenal Target Has Given A Hint To The Gunners

Xavi Simons, a gifted winger for Paris Saint-Germain, has caught the eye of Arsenal. Following their unsuccessful effort to get Benjamin Sesko earlier this month, Mikel Arteta and Edu had been plotting this move for quite a while. Even though the club had no plans to add a striker to their roster this summer, Sesko’s limited availability made the chance too good to pass up.

Arsenal will not be adding to their attacking line but rather concentrating on other areas that need improvement. Arteta aims to strengthen the team’s depth chart by adding players to the fullback, wide attacking, and central midfield positions. Unless a substantial bid comes in, Gabriel Jesus is set to remain, and striker Kai Havertz has been doing well. Consequently, other matters should take precedence.

The Dutch national team’s youthful and adaptable winger Xavi Simons is an ideal candidate for the role at Euro 2024. Arsenal is interested in signing him because of his versatility as an attacker. A number of elite European teams have shown interest in signing Simons after he recently told PSG that he plans to go after the tournament.

Reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano was the first to report that Simons has officially informed PSG of his intention to leave the club this summer. According to Romano, the move is most likely a loan until June 2025. Arsenal has stiff competition for the signature of Simons from Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig.

Given the uncertainty surrounding Emile Smith Rowe’s future with the club, the possible arrival of Simons at Arsenal might indicate a significant change. Simons would be great to have on board as a substitute for Smith Rowe if he decides to go elsewhere for consistent playing time. Although Arsenal supporters would be sad to see Smith Rowe go, Simons injects energy into the team and might put a spring in their step.

Nevertheless, signing Simons will not be a walk in the park. Because of a provision in his contract, PSG would rather lend him to another club than sell him directly. His previous club, PSV Eindhoven, would get a sizable chunk of the transfer money if PSG decided to trade Simons before January 2025. Because PSG wants to save as much money as possible, this makes a permanent relocation more difficult.

The most probable outcome is a loan agreement. It is possible that Arsenal may contemplate a permanent move for Simons in the summer of 2025 once he signs a loan deal. This strategy is in line with PSG’s inclination and gives Arsenal plenty of time to assess Simons. If he does a good job, they can keep him on staff indefinitely without worrying about the budgetary restrictions of the contract.

As a result of this possible transfer, Arsenal supporters should be optimistic. If Simons were to join the team, he would infuse new life and adaptability. His youth, skill, and proven performance at Euro 2024 make him an asset to the team. Despite the high level of competition, Arsenal’s smart approach and obvious enthusiasm for the player might provide them an advantage.
