Though rumoured to join Arsenal this summer, Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi has no interest in doing so. Rather, Zubimendi is looking elsewhere; Barcelona seems like a more alluring choice to the Spanish star.
Zubimendi has established himself in La Liga for the last two years. San Sebastian-born, he worked his way up the Real Sociedad levels before making his debut in April 2019. He has grown to be an important member of the squad because to his constant excellent performances. Throughout his almost 200 Real Sociedad games, he has scored eight goals and provided seven assists. With five caps for Spain, 25-year-old Zubimendi is also building a name for himself internationally.
€60m Defensive Midfielder Rejects Arsenal
Zubimendi’s skill and consistency make it hardly surprising that a number of elite European teams have noticed him. He has always piqued the curiosity of Barcelona, and now that Arsenal is out of the picture, their pursuit becomes more likely. A new midfielder has being sought for by the Gunners as they get ready for the summer transfer window. Arsenal considered Zubimendi as a possible replacement for Thomas Partey, whose future was unclear and Mohamed Elneny was about to depart as a free agent.
Zubimendi’s €60 million release clause was clearly something Arsenal was eager to activate. Zubimendi is not, however, interested in moving to North London. Barcelona has better chances of landing him thanks to this choice. Zubimendi is the ideal holding midfielder the Catalan club is looking for.
Understandably, Zubimendi prefers Barcelona than Arsenal. Language- and culturally-speaking, Barcelona provides a more comfortable setting. Zubimendi probably prefers to play for one of Spain’s best teams than go to the Premier League.
Barcelona’s chances to get Zubimendi grow more evident as Arsenal withdraws from the competition. The Blaugrana will have to choose whether they can afford the Spanish international’s €60 million price. In such case, Zubimendi may be a big asset to their team.
All things considered, Martin Zubimendi seems to be headed more toward Barcelona than Arsenal. He is a sought-after player because of his ascent at Real Sociedad and his involvement with the Spanish national team. Barcelona has an opportunity since Zubimendi would rather remain in Spain, even if Arsenal is interested and prepared to invest. Barcelona has to act now to get the gifted midfielder’s signature.

Arsenal has a big advantage in their pursuit of Quilindschy Hartman, the full-back target of Chelsea. Hartman is reportedly preferring to join Arsenal, according to The Evening Standard. The Feyenoord full-back’s outstanding performances have made him a sought-after possibility for a number of Premier League teams even with his severe injury. Chelsea has been monitoring him, but Arsenal seems to be far ahead in the signing process.
Hartman joined Feyenoord’s main squad in the summer of 2022 after rising through the levels there. He has shown steady development since then. He has been called up to the Dutch national team as well because of his outstanding efforts. His development has been halted, however, by a serious knee injury that will keep him out of commission until 2025. Notwithstanding this setback, Premier League teams are interested in the 22-year-old because of his early potential in the Eredivisie.
