Former Premier League goalie Paul Robinson has hinted that Aaron Ramsdale would unexpectedly join Liverpool in order to take against Alisson Becker in the next campaign. Currently at Arsenal, Ramsdale is one of the well-known players who is predicted to depart the team this summer. Ramsdale is an England international, hence his future at Arsenal is hazy, particularly if he keeps playing second fiddle to Mikel Arteta.

Mostly because of injuries to other contenders like Nick Pope, Ramsdale was called up to the preliminary England team for the Euros. But if he stays a benchwarmer at Arsenal, his status in the national squad may be in jeopardy. Should Ramsdale not get consistent playing time, Gareth Southgate may reevaluate his choices for the England group.
Back in January, Newcastle United expressed interest in Ramsdale and rumors circulated that they were eager to sign him. Much, however, relies on Newcastle’s financial limitations and Arsenal’s asking price. The Magpies want someone to challenge Nick Pope, not to completely replace him, and Ramsdale hasn’t shown much enthusiasm in relocating to St. James’ Park.

Speaking on Football Insider, Paul Robinson now predicts Ramsdale will join Liverpool. Ramsdale is not directly connected to the Merseyside team, hence this idea is very unexpected. Robinson feels Ramsdale is more likely to remain in the Premier League than to go overseas. He brought up Chelsea as a possible destination, saying they needed a trustworthy goalie. If Caoimhin Kelleher leaves the team, he does, however, also consider Liverpool to be a good alternative.
Robinson brought out that Ramsdale has played less games this season than Kelleher, and that a transfer to Liverpool may give Ramsdale more chances to establish himself. Ramsdale, he feels, might gain from the extra playing time and the opportunity to fight Alisson for the top slot.
Still, the idea that Ramsdale relocate to Liverpool begs a number of issues. Ramsdale would remain the backup goalie even if he were to take Kelleher’s spot. This scenario would not change all that much from his present circumstances at Arsenal, where he is up against David Raya. Ramsdale should, according to some, fight for his position at Arsenal rather than going to Liverpool to play a comparable role.

Ahead of the summer transfer window, Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow has also been linked to Liverpool and Arsenal. If Liverpool chooses to trade Alisson, who has been linked to a transfer to Saudi Arabia, Bijlow may be a more logical option. Ramsdale’s transfer to Liverpool would make more sense in such case as he could take over as the starting goalie.
Finally, even if Paul Robinson’s proposal to have Aaron Ramsdale join Liverpool is interesting, there are significant difficulties and unknowns. The future of Ramsdale is still unknown, and a lot will rely on what Liverpool and Arsenal do in the summer market. Ramsdale will put getting regular playing time first whether he ends up at Liverpool, Chelsea, or another Premier League team in order to keep his place in the England squad.
