Arsenal: As Barcelona withdraws from the contest, Arsenal’s hunt of Real Sociedad star Mikel Merino gathers steam. A report from SPORT claims that the Gunners got a big boost when Barcelona withdrew. Arsenal wants to improve their team in hopes of breaking their Premier League championship run-down. Given Thomas Partey’s future is unclear, the Euro 2024 champion may be a major boost to their midfield. Merino may create a great alliance with Declan Rice, therefore laying a strong basis in the middle of the park.
Arsenal Get Positive Update For Mikel Merino; Chelsea stunned
Mikel Merino has often started since he joined Real Sociedad in 2018. With just 12 months remaining on his contract, his future is still unknown even if he is indispensible. Although Atletico Madrid expressed interest in the 28-year-old, Merino found their proposal un appealing. Real Sociedad also wanted not to sell him to Atletico. Arsenal and Barcelona emerged as the major competitors for Atletico’s signature absent from the battle.
Barcelona seems to have dropped out of the scene presently. Though their financial circumstances prevented them from making a major effort, they did want to include Merino to their team. His addition would have helped their midfield, which suffered with injuries last season. Barcelona could have only signed Merino by selling Frenkie de Jong; they have decided against that possibility. Arsenal leads the race presently as Barcelona is sliding behind.
Although Merino has been under negotiations, the Gunners have not found a clear agreement. Real Sociedad has tried dramatically to remain longer. They first refused to satisfy his requests for a fresh agreement, but they have now presented a better offer that fits his requirements.
Merino now has to make a big choice. He has to decide whether to stick with Real Sociedad or start a fresh journey with Arsenal in the Premier League. Moving to Arsenal gives the possibility to play in the UEFA Champions League and win championships.
From Arsenal’s standpoint, this trend seems encouraging. Getting a Merino-caliber player would greatly improve their midfield. Still, they have to be careful and tenacious in their discussions as Real Sociedad’s better offer introduces a level of complication. Should Merino select Arsenal, it may be the boost need to pursue the championship.

His arrival at Anfield initially caused much enthusiasm, but it has faded and he has found it difficult to into the first team.
Liverpool has established a price of €20 million and is ready to sell van den Berg. Re-signing him permanently interests FSV Mainz, although they are cautious to pay Liverpool’s asking price. The involvement of Hoffenheim gives the matter fresh perspective. Although they have started conversations with van den Berg’s side, official negotiations with Liverpool are yet to start.
