Fabrizio Romano Reveals Why Pedro Neto Is Not Signing For Arsenal Or Tottenham

Pedro Neto leaves Wolves behind and is about to make a big transfer to Chelsea, therefore changing his career. With both Tottenham and Arsenal previously connected to the Portuguese star, this transfer—which appeared suddenly on Friday afternoon—had first looked destined for one of the North London teams. But according to Fabrizio Romano’s observations, neither team really went for the agreement with much enthusiasm.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano clarified the circumstances and pointed out that Arsenal’s interest in Neto never turned into a clear offer. Arsenal had not forward any official ideas even though the winger had been linked to them. Already heavily loaded with top players like Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, and Gabriel Martinelli, the Gunners were happy with their present choices.

Conversely, Tottenham apparently had a real curiosity in Neto. Though the Spurs considered him as a possible addition to their team, their financial situation changed their view of the trade. Romano clarified that Tottenham chose a different approach as they were not ready to pay the hefty price tag connected with Neto. Spurs could have thought that the expense did not pay for the possible benefit given Heung-Min Son, Timo Werner, Brennan Johnson, and Dejan Kulusevski already vying for wings.

Neto’s road thus brought him to Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea grabbed the chance to enlist him into their ranks. The relocation begs issues about how Neto would fit on a Chelsea team with similarly high offensive capability. Chelsea’s choice to go for Neto, however, might indicate their aim to increase the squad depth—or maybe they see unrealized promise in the winger Arsenal and Tottenham missed.

“I have many questions on Pedro Neto this summer, but I can guarantee that Arsenal for example were never really in for Pedro Neto this summer. Arsenal had an interest in Pedro Neto, but they never made any concrete proposal this summer,” Romano said.

He added: “Tottenham had a genuine interest in Pedro Neto, he was one of the players in the list of Tottenham, but they were not going to pay that money, Tottenham had a different kind of strategy for Pedro Neto.”

Looking forward, Arsenal and Tottenham could have been wise in passing Neto. Both teams look suited for the wide positions, and the significant financial outlay needed to recruit Neto would have been better used elsewhere. Chelsea’s readiness to satisfy Wolves’ needs would suggest a different strategy or maybe a more urgent need for reinforcement.

The Gunners have only added one senior so far: Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna. Three weeks left in the transfer period means the team is probably going to seek further reinforcements.
