Arsenal are ready to offer a new contract to Real Madrid target

Arsenal are ready to offer a new contract to William Saliba

Arsenal want no distractions this summer, so the club is clear that William Saliba represents a key part of Mikel Arteta’s project. Although the French centre-back is under contract until 2027, the Londoners know that letting time go by without securing his permanence could be costly. In north London, they fear that rumours from Spain are starting to gain momentum, and so they are preparing to make decisions quickly. The aim is simple: to renew the player before Real Madrid turn their interest into real pressure. And if they want to keep him, the time is now.

Sources close to the club have indicated to Football Insider that Arsenal plan to open contract talks with Saliba in the summer. The intention is clear: to shield him in the face of growing interest from Real Madrid. Although the centre-back still has two years left on his contract, that window is no longer as wide as it seems.

Madrid have made Saliba one of their main targets, and the report has clearly stated that their interest will not diminish. Their demanding pressure, which they have used with other star signings, could be applied again in this case. The North London club do not want to be forced to negotiate for one of their best assets. They also note with concern how Madrid have closed the deal for Alexander-Arnold as a free agent, which reinforces the fear that they will try to get Saliba to run down his contract.

That is why the Emirates offices are already considering offering him an improved deal. Arteta wants him for the long term and is not prepared to risk his continuity. A renewal would not only ensure stability in defence, but would also send a clear message to the big clubs in Europe.

Arsenal must act without hesitation. Saliba has been one of the pillars of the defence in recent seasons, and his departure would leave a gap that would be difficult to fill. Offering him an improved contract would not only be a show of confidence but a logical investment. The Frenchman has room to grow, knows the league well and already understands what Arteta demands. Keeping him happy, on and off the pitch, should be a priority. If the club does not make a clear decision now, it risks the player starting to look elsewhere, especially if Madrid become insistent. Securing him for the team is vital to the project and long-term future of the club.

Now, if the scenario goes wrong and Saliba decides not to renew, Arsenal cannot afford to lose him for free. Planning must start now, and if there is no deal by the end of the year, they must explore the market early. Finding a replacement early and maximising the selling price would be the most logical route. Selling him in 2026 would be a mistake, as they need to get ahead of the curve. Arsenal could even agree on a sale on favourable terms, securing clauses or a percentage of future sales. If he is to be sold, let it be done intelligently and at the right time.
