Arsenal, Liverpool Lead Race to Sign Bournemouth star

Arsenal, Liverpool Lead Race to Sign Dean Huijsen

Arsenal news: Dean Huijsen didn’t arrive in the Premier League with much noise, but his performances for Bournemouth have changed that. The young Spanish centre-back adapted to top-flight football faster than many expected.

His strong displays have drawn attention from bigger clubs, with Arsenal and Liverpool both keeping a close eye. The Premier League rarely allows time for development, yet Huijsen has handled the pressure well. He reads the game sharply, and his composure in possession has stood out. With the season wrapped up, the focus now shifts to his next move. At just 20, his future looks promising.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Arsenal and Liverpool have taken the lead in the chase for Huijsen. The Spanish international has a £50 million release clause, which puts him in a price range that only a handful of clubs can realistically afford. Juventus allowed him to leave, and that might soon look like a misjudgement.

His time at Bournemouth has boosted his reputation. He’s handled physical duels, played through pressure, and stayed consistent. That has made him one of the most talked-about young defenders available this summer. Real Madrid have shown interest too, though the English sides appear more active in the pursuit right now. Huijsen knows he must choose a club that can offer both challenge and minutes.

From Arsenal’s point of view, signing another central defender might raise eyebrows. Saliba, Gabriel, and Calafiori are already in place. Unless one of them leaves or moves to a different role, fitting Huijsen into the rotation could be tough. The Gunners want to fight for the title, and they need ready-made depth, but they also must avoid overcrowding the squad. Liverpool look like the more natural destination.

Van Dijk won’t go on forever, Konate has his own injury spells, and there’s room for someone to step in and grow. Huijsen could get more consistent playing time at Anfield. If he continues to develop at this rate, £50 million might seem like a smart call a year or two from now. Arsenal would benefit from having him too, but only if they can offer him minutes that match his stage in development. Otherwise, Liverpool seem the better fit.
