Real Madrid Plot Dual Swoop for Arsenal players

Real Madrid Plot Dual Swoop for Arsenal's William Saliba and Myles Lewis-Skelly

Real Madrid’s plans for a defensive overhaul have been bubbling under for months, and now reports from Fichajes have stirred fresh speculation. The Spanish giants, despite already holding one of the strongest squads in Europe, want more depth and future security.

Their ongoing interest in Arsenal’s prized centre-back William Saliba has now reportedly expanded to include Myles Lewis-Skelly, one of the brightest emerging midfielders from the north London club’s academy. Both players hold long-term value for the Gunners, and this news adds another layer of uncertainty just as Mikel Arteta pushes to keep his current core intact.

The report claims Madrid could be prepared to offer around €120 million for the two Arsenal players. That figure, while substantial, seems light when weighed against the importance of each to Arteta’s side. Saliba has firmly established himself as one of the best defenders in England.

His composure, aerial dominance, and ability on the ball make him close to irreplaceable. Madrid admire those qualities, but they know Arsenal won’t be soft sellers. Meanwhile, Lewis-Skelly has moved up quickly in Arteta’s plans and already features in key domestic fixtures. His sharp decision-making and energy in midfield have turned heads, including those in Spain.

However, with both players tied to contracts and with Arsenal working on extending their stays, the suggestion that they could be prised away in a single deal seems far-fetched. Madrid may admire, but admiration alone doesn’t open doors in north London.

Arsenal should treat this speculation as a compliment, not a threat. It reflects the level of progress the club has made under Arteta. That Saliba attracts interest from Europe’s elite is not surprising, but the Gunners must draw a clear line in the sand. Letting him go, especially while they remain in contention for major honours, would send the wrong message.

He has two years left on his deal, and the club must secure an extension without delay. As for Lewis-Skelly, the signs suggest he’s committed to his development at Arsenal. Keeping him close and involving him regularly will ensure he doesn’t glance elsewhere. Real Madrid might turn their focus to cheaper, more available alternatives like Kerkez or Huijsen.

Arsenal, on the other hand, should use this interest to tighten their hold on young talent. Letting go of either would not only weaken the squad but also raise doubts over the club’s ambitions. Keeping Saliba and Lewis-Skelly must be non-negotiable if Arsenal hope to stay competitive at the highest level. The ball, for now, remains firmly in Arsenal’s court. And the stance they take here could define their next few seasons.
