24-year-old winger rejects Arsenal and Chelsea for Liverpool

The summer transfer market always opens up unexpected scenarios. With Mikel Arteta looking for reinforcements to complete a competitive Arsenal squad, wingers have become a clear focus.

The London club have made subtle moves and continue to monitor situations on several offensive fronts. Arsenal’s sporting management are considering new options for the wings. And in that context, a name has emerged that has generated conversation: Anthony Gordon. However, the path does not seem free of obstacles, and the most obvious one comes in the form of a red shield.

24-year-old winger rejects Arsenal and Chelsea for Liverpool

According to information from Graeme Bailey at TBR Football, Anthony Gordon has a clear preference: to sign for Liverpool. The England international, currently at Newcastle, has been a Reds fan since childhood, and that emotional connection carries weight.

Although both Arsenal and Chelsea have shown interest in his situation, the player does not view a move to London in the same light. Liverpool have not made a formal offer, but with rumours of Luis Díaz’s departure and Federico Chiesa’s inconsistent form, the Anfield club could consider signing the 24-year-old winger. Gordon had an outstanding season with the Magpies, adding speed, unpredictability and attacking personality.

Opinion:

But should Arsenal continue to pursue him despite his sentimental attachment to Liverpool? In a market where dominant wingers are scarce, persistence could make sense. Arteta has demonstrated an ability to convince players with his approach.

Leandro Trossard, for example, arrived when he seemed to have other destinations. Gordon fits the profile: young, intense, attacking. However, insisting too much on someone who does not see London as their priority can waste time and resources. There are alternatives that could fit well with the team’s style without that initial resistance.

On the other hand, it would not be the first time that a player has changed their mind in the face of a solid project. If Arsenal manages to communicate a clear plan, a defined role, and a real European projection, childhood emotions can be left behind. But that requires speed, clarity in negotiations and perhaps a more attractive financial offer. In that game, Liverpool will always have the advantage if they decide to go all in.

Would it be a blow for Arsenal if Gordon ends up at Anfield? Yes, but not a definitive one. The squad needs more depth on the wing, but not everything depends on one player. Arteta has managed to build a competitive team with diverse resources, and losing one option does not mean losing the battle.

The key will be not to get too distracted. If Gordon maintains his stance, the smart move would be to turn to more open options, who also arrive with the desire to wear the Arsenal shirt and not with nostalgia for another. In this market, conviction is worth as much as talent.
