Gyokeres heading to Arsenal or Manchester United? The final battle for the Swedish striker
As the summer progresses, Premier League clubs are making their moves. In the case of Arsenal, their target is clear: they need a striker who can offer a threat, mobility and physical presence in the box. Last season left a good taste in their mouths, although they fell short in the decisive moments. Arteta knows he needs more firepower up front if his side are to take the next step. Meanwhile, in Manchester, the Red Devils continue to rebuild their project without the desired stability. The search for a new number nine has become an urgent priority.
Manchester United have not had a reliable striker for a long time. Neither Martial, Rashford, nor Højlund have solved the problem. Under new manager Rúben Amorim, the lack of goals has been a problem in the previous season. Arsenal, meanwhile, came close to the title with eye-catching play but without a lethal striker. The need on both fronts has caused their paths to collide in the market.
The race for Gyokeres intensifies
According to SIC News, Manchester United have entered the race for Viktor Gyokeres with a vengeance. The Swedish striker, currently at Sporting CP, has been a priority target for Arsenal for weeks. The Gunners already have a verbal agreement close to 73.5 million euros with the Portuguese club, but the final details have not been finalised. In this context, United have reportedly tried to make a higher offer. However, the Swedish striker does not seem convinced by the idea of wearing red at Old Trafford.
Gyokeres is coming off the back of a tremendous campaign in Portugal. Under the tutelage of Rúben Amorim, he became a scoring machine. Fast, strong, with great reading of space and aggressiveness in the box, he has the profile to suit both teams. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Swede has only one destination in mind, Arsenal. He does not want to be distracted by other proposals and prefers to wait until everything is finalised with the Londoners.
The decision is in the player’s hands
If everything depended on money, Manchester United would probably have already won this fight. But in this case, the player’s will is setting the pace. Gyokeres does not want to play at Old Trafford, despite the club’s insistence and their most tempting offer. That leaves Arsenal in a delicate but still advantageous position. It’s up to them to close the deal with Sporting and avoid last-minute mistakes.
We think if Arsenal stick to their guns, they will eventually close the deal. Gyokeres wants to play at the Emirates, and that is the main factor. Sporting may take advantage of United’s interest to squeeze him financially, but the player is clear about his path. It’s not every day you find a 27-year-old striker in his prime, hungry and determined to play for your club. If Arsenal manage to sign him before the season starts, it could be the step they have been missing to compete with guarantees until the end of the season.
